Lapped AMD Phenom II 965 + lapped stock heatsink. Good bye thermal paste! - Page 3

As long as we are talking about microscopic surface contact here, I think we should address issues such as dust, bacteria, etc. OP you should consider attaching your heatsink to the cpu inside a vacuum, after everything has been sterilized by very strong UV light and/or a laser.

Even if its running within spec you should always use TIM. ALWAYS!

You gotta figure I'm using 100% stock cooling, only difference is the heatsink and CPU are now lapped. As I said I messed up slightly on lapping the heatsink so I will be redoing it in the next hour or so and re-test temps.

Yes I did, in a way I'm testing to see how good of temps I can get out of a stock heatsink, plus for $15 I got enough sandpaper to do like ten heatsinks so I figured why not.

I had already thought about that. But I have yet to be mental enough to attempt it. Gimme a year.

I get temps of 25C idle and 47C LinX load with an unlapped stock AMD cooler and unlapped AMD 965 BE and MX-2.

You need paste.
And its nice that you tried to get the most outta it.

You got some practice aswell, and that does count for the next heatsink you lap.

But yes, add some paste please. That'll drop at least 10ºC. Be sure of it.
