Three certs from the Linux+ exams?

Thread Starter
So.... I'm still going through my linux+ stuff REALLY slowly cause as much as i love linux, reading about command line for hours at a time puts me to sleep XD

BUT i had to read the front of my book and stumbled across this

"As noted above, if you pass the CompTIA Linux+ exams, you do have the option of also obtaining your LPIC-1 certification from LPI, as well as your Novell Certified Linux Administrator (CLA) certification at the same time. All that is required is authorization to submit your information to LPI. You are given this option at the testing site."

now i heard about the LPI cert being tied in with the test, tahts why they are so expensive... but i never heard of it tying in with novell at all, anyone know anything about this? any additional cost requirements or anything of that sort?
Kinda meh now...

well i know lpi and comptia teamed up to improve comptias linux+ exam recently, and because of this the price is way high frown.gif like 139 per test, compared to 74 per test for A+... this is because lpi wont allow a student discount to their cert, basically taking the two linux+ exams now, IS taking the lpic-1 exams...

the one im questioning is the novell cert, ive never heard of it being grouped into the linux+ exam...

well ok... i figured out, linux+ gives you potential for lpic-1 cert, and lpic-1 cert gives you potential for novell CLA cert...

i got a question im hoping some one can answer though...

the lpi certs expire after 5 years, but thats the only expiration date i could find for any of them... does anyone know if the linux+ and novell CLA expire in five years also? less? more?

*crosses fingers for 4life certs from any of the three cause re-certification is a waste of time*

Linux+ will not. But all comptia course work has CE(CONTINUING EDUCATION) testing. the only comptia exams that expire are A+, Net+, Sec+, and Server+ if taken after Jan 1st, 2011. If taken before hand CE exams are recommended not required.

cool, thats one down smile.gif

i knew the CE stuff, but on the information about certification renewal and all that, it only said A+ Net+ and Sec+ and so i wasnt sure if it applied to everything or just those three tongue.gif but i did make sure to get those three in dec 2010 so i dont have to fuss with renewal unless my employer wants it down the road...

thats comptia... on the novell site i couldnt find ANYTHING about certification renewal frown.gif so idk about novell...

another question adding into the thread, arent all the RHEL certs 4life?

Should have gotten onto that earlier. I'm just going to get all my certs once I'm out of school...Shame they'll need to be renewed.

better than stressing about them like i did smile.gif got all 3 done in december 2010 just so i wouldnt have to fuss with it, but i was rushing quite a bit...

the tests arent very hard XD but they arent exactly cheap, so rushing them will make ya stressed... im taking my time on the linux+ smile.gif lol

Hi,

Has anyone done the new Linux+ exam? I haven't done an exam of any sort for ten years and thought I'd give this one a go.
I'm using the transcender study material but wonder how a 80% for example on that equates to on the actual exam? I think once I have a few exams under my belt again I will get an idea but at the moment I'm reluctant to do anything until I'm getting 100% on.

Thanks and any tips would be appreciated.

Andrew
