Do Consoles drag down PC Games?

As the market sits, outside of Crysis, there does not seem to be a whole lot of games that require the new DX11 GPU's even though I can easily upgrade to that GPU technology on my almost 4 year old PC build.

Ive heard that the GTX-590, will have 3GB+ Of GPU ram.

I am not the most familiar with GPU technology other than more RAM is good, but the Xbox 360's GPU is what, 5+ years old and there still going off of it. I think the PS3 has 512mb of Ram. Im looking at a GTX-570 with 1280mb of RAM as my next GPU which would blow it out of the water.

I am an uneducated consumer, but it seems to me that there havent been many mind blowing graphix thats hit the console since GTAIV, and Ive heard that GTAV is being delayed until Microsoft starts work on a new Console which will not be on the drawing board til 2012.

I can improve my gaming PC to play much more elaborate games with just a GPU upgrade, but it seems that there is not a whole lot of games on the market that require a GPU upgrade.

Any ideas on if the console games are dragging the industry down as a whole, since they have not upgraded in several years?

1st: Crysis is DX10 No DX11

2nd: High end GPUs are more useful at higher resolutions such as 2560x1600, 5760x1080, 3240x1080, 5040x1050, or 3840x1024.

At 1920x1080, you don't really need a great GPU. A single GTX 460 would do great at 1920x1080 @ 60hz

3rd: Consoles do hold PCs back if the game is a port, but when it comes to graphical elements of the game, non portish game always have better visuals on PCs.
Port means that the game is just basically ripped to the PC from the console without too much effort, which translates to poor performance and visuals.

Cheers!

No. The greed of game production companies brings down PC gaming.

yes, console gaming is holding back pc gaming.

not only in the graphics department, but in the gameplay and complexity department also.

There are still a few publishers and studios that are still treating the PC gamer properly, but they are few and far between.

Yes, console games drag down PC game developement, no I wont give specifics, yes I am talking out my ass. However, games like Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2, have shown a console to PC port gain from game to game, ME1 was slaw, but ME2 was really quite good. So some developers are keen to keep there PC side of the consumer house happy... is this the case across the board? Hell no... look at Black Ops... total ball fumble on PC.

Does a FIAT drag down the auto industry... I think it helps pay for better autos to be built, some of which are knitch.

I would get a higher resolution monitor if 30"+ werent easily $1100 on Newegg. That problem goes to the prices of LCD monitors, to truly utilize a high-end GPU, it would seem you would have to spend more than double what you paid for a high-end GPU just for the monitor alone.

28" for $300 is hard to compete with the Hann-G as LCD monitors go.

3x 21.5 1920x1080 monitors in eyefinity (5760x1080 or 3240x1920) would cost 420 with american prices. Cough... 600€ with finnish prices, keeping in mind that the euro is worth more.

Not too shabby.

Well I was also thinking about games like Black Op's where it costs $60 to buy it for the Xbox, OR PC. Ive played Black Ops and maybe its just because Im not all that into FPS's like I use to be, but asides Zombie mode and a new story line, I just do not see where the development costs require that $60 pricetag, Im use to spending $20-$30 for a new PC game, cept if I got it from BestBuy.

And then ontop of that, if you want to play your Xbox online, you gotta pay a monthly subscription fee, something I have never done to play online for a PC game (I suppose WoW would be an exception but I dont play it)

keep an eye on battlefield 3, the witcher 2, and Red orchestra 2.

2 of them are PC only and will push their games further than anything the console can do, the other is multi platform but is taking advantage of dx11 with special focus on the pc platform.
