Dropped laptop - Is the screen fried or the video card?

My mom's cousin dropped his laptop, and now it does this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qj9ctxP6C7M#t=0m50s

From the video you can see that the screen "jumps around" approximately every two seconds. It's hard to tell from the video, but there's also some glitchy-looking (not solid) horizontal lines that are constantly at the bottom. Because I've never seen anything like this before, I assumed at first that the the integrated graphics were fried. But when I plugged in an external monitor via VGA, the display output was fine.

I've tried fiddling with the wire that connects the screen to the mobo to no avail. Everything else on the PC works fine, so my question is: should I be replacing the screen or the motherboard?

You would have had to drop it REALLY hard to damage the video card itself, then again it depends where it was dropped and on what part took the blow. But that looks like a dying screen to me. Plug an external monitor in and see what happens. If the ext monitor works he needs a new screen.

This. If its still in warranty.

Laptop screens can get expensive sometimes worth more than the actual laptop.

RMA it if still in warranty. If not, you can always buy a new screen of of ebay an tell the seller after a few days of use it started to flicker. I did the same thing except it involved 3 vertical lines going down the screen. I ended up with an extra new screen which I sold for quick bucks.

Of course, you can always buy a new one off ebay and not do what I told you

Looks like a loose Ribbon cable. Better have it RMA'ed, no need to disassemble it and void your warranty.
