$1500 Partial Rebuild - Page 2

I recommend a i7 950 and a GTX 580. All that for about 1000 bucks with 500 left over for memory and a water cooling loop. You'll need it with that i7 950.

Actually it's been proven to be a terrible platform with SATA ports that will degrade over time. I suggest waiting for Bulldozer and getting a good GPU now like a HD6950 and unlocking it.

Does anyone have any idea how much a bulldozer platform would cost? (by cost increase in amd generation jump in the past) I'll be without a pc for 6 months if I wait for bulldozer.

Correct me if I'm wrong but won't it only be about as much of a jump as 4 to 6 core (very little), from 6 to 8 since most game devs aren't even using 4 cores yet? I just game on my pc, so processor isn't the biggest factor in my build right?

You are correct, except BD is a whole new architecture, (really the first new architecture for AMD since Athlon in 2000ish) So for AMD this is supposed to be a huge upgrade, you're not just adding cores on. I would say wait for BD, Why will you be without a pc for 6 months? You selling parts off this current build?
Edit
btw, never say "this will be my last" lmao. I remember telling someone that the 2GB hard drive they paid $500 for should last them "Till they die." I had to kill him 2 years later just to make sure I wasn't wrong. (I hate being wrong)

yes I am, and throwing it toward my upgrade. I'm thinking a temporary mobo/cpu since I can't live without my pc for half a year, then selling if bulldozer is a success. On the flip side, It wouldn't cost much more to have the best amd has available now, just in case.

Well Bulldozer should be here in April so you won't have to wait 6 months.

I'd go with SB. Don't listen to those people who say it is unsafe, they are really stretching the truth. Don't go with the 6 core AMD.

It isn't just this thread or even this forum that I've been warned of SB.... how does yours fare?

The 4x2GB Ripjaws 7-8-7 kit is out of stock
But the 2x2 kit isn't... and it actually ends up $10 cheaper for 2 kits
