Why do Pentium 3/4's OC so well?

i always hear people say how they OC'd theire P3/4 to a redicoulous number. I thought these chips had huge die size, and ran hot. Why do they still clock better than procs nowadays? even current 1 core chips dont do as good.

liquid nitrogen. Suicide runs.... They also use some of the best mobos on the market. The cpu also dosent have to be stable , you just have to get into windows.

lol, but why P3/4 why not a different chip? Whats so special about them, even with the same coooling my E5200 couldnt hit 7.3ghz.

The tolerance for the chips is a lot higher than current gen chips. As stuff gets smaller the tolerance goes down because you're working with more.

Probably because they dont care if the chip dies. I have a P3 rig in my garage, if I killed it, it would just end up back in the garage again

Doesn't really answer the question.

What the pentiums lacked in architecture they could make up with somewhat with there high clocks... modern day processors are totally different architecture than the P4 and P3s and you can't really compare the two by clocks. 90nm dies can take WAY more voltage to!

Some chips are that way.

It's easier to get an i7 to 4.0GHz and beyond but a Phenom II is a little trickier yet under sub zero temperatures Phenom II does really well for insane clocking. It's just how the architecture is I guess.
