Windows XP help.

Thread Starter
I tried to install Windows XP Pro on a Dell netbook. Everything was going great until I installed SP3. Now I have slow boot times and shut down times. Also anything I try to run has a slight pause before it actually works.

I'm going to switch and install Windows XP Home. The disk I have is an original. No service packs. Do I need to install SP1 and then SP2, or will SP2 by itself be enough? I have original SP disks from years ago. Will a newer SP download have anything newer on it or will it be the same? And I don't plan on installing SP3.

My mini 9 has a 8Gig SSD. Not much room. Will the disk compression utility do any good? I just basiclly need a web browser. Will the compression slow it down? I was going to try it on XP Pro but it said it would take 8 hours.

You can take your XP Original disc and slipstream the service pack 2 into it using (nLite), personally I hate SP3, but that's for many reasons I don't care to discuss...

You will obviously need to download the SP2 & all hotfixes, definitely want these..

It's also simple to just install the base OS and update it, JUST MAKE SURE YOU DON'T download SP3!!! (Use custom install, not Express!)
