570 = ~6970 .

570 all the way, although u can unlock the 6850,but the 570 will have the higher resale value.

and when under water, 570 oc's like a beast

neither. a 6970 is basically the same price as a 570 and performs better than 570 SLi when you CF the 6970.
single 570=~single 6970
but
6970 CF>570 SLi
reference is usually better since it has voltage ctrl.
get the twin frozr II or asus direct cu II versions. much better for OCing and they have voltage ctrl!
if not, the reference sapphire cards will do good too

No they cant as its hard to find blocks for them. As of not most of them are reference. Ask someone here before you buy. I would not get GTX570 if you go water as their power delivery is very limited and might blow up.

PCB color, cooler, and look right above the PCIe bus. if it says AMD, its reference
the AMD logo is more of a tell tale sign tho.
example:

Don't disable saftey features or go past the voltage limit and you wont blow up. I mean out of all the people in the overclocking thread you would think they would be blowing up everywhere if it was as serious as some people with hidden agendas make it out to be.

If you are water cooled you want max voltage you can possible use and it dies even with safety feature ON.
