Looking for a solid $250 card - Page 6

Wow I actually took a look into the 6950s and how they can be unlocked to 6970.

These red cards actually perform just a tad bit better than 560tis after I did some research.

The fact that 6970 matches performance-wise with the 570 in some respects and how the 6950 is way cheaper than 570 makes me go to the red camp!

Even if some benchmarks are off or the 570 scores better, 6950s and even unlocked 6970s delivers with lower wattage for that performance.

I never really was a "green camper" or a "red camper" but I think I will change my Intel - NVIDIA sign to Intel - ATI sign and edit my sig rig soon enough!

ok, i know the gtx 570 is best for 1920 1080 res, but its priced kinda high, and i can flash a 6950 to 6970 for which is only $250, then we have the gtx 560 which can be overclocked to 1ghz, so between the 6950(flashed to 6970) overclocked or the msi gtx 560 TI overclocked, which would be best to get for gaming and folding?

you guys are talking like you have a 100% of flashing ur 6950 into 6970. beside, even if u successfully flashed it, your overclocking headroom won't be as wide as a normal 6970. other wise no one would buy 6970s.
btw fermi scales better on overclock and they also overclock higher when compared to amd's gpu.

I believe that's true to a certain extent about how OC headroom isn't as high as normal 6970s but if you do some voltage tweaking one can definitely get passed the 1GHz core clock with an unlocked 6950.

Point is, 6950s use less power than 560s anyways and after unlocking it, you can over-volt it, overclock it, whatever and achieve the performance one wants.

Also, this site points out that unlocking 6950s is quite a high chance.

At the very last bit.

Then again, it is still risky and one would have to do it at their own risk. It's not like unlocking GTX465s as they have A LOT lower chance to do so.

the 560 is an insane card... from what i have seen, it is just barely behind the 570 in most games... like real close. and it has an unusually high minimum fps if i recall correctly. (if reviews that have minimum, maximum, and average fps for games)

*caugh* dont go ati when you can get a 560 *caugh*

Not only that but people have damaged their cards flashing them. The best bet is to just unlock the shaders and overclock to 6970 speeds.

i like the 560 a lot. its really close to the 570, which is a $350 card. the 6950 is also a strong card, i think im still leaning green team because of the features and such like PhysX and i like the GF114

Stock silliness for ATI.

Just like a gtx 560 beats a 470 at stock, overclocked the 470 is faster.

ATI cards are near their max clocks most of the time, with most people doing 1000Mhz overclocks from 850. I can do 900+ from 607.
