Unless you rely completely on cellular data at home (which I bet hardly anyone does), this is just an utter waste of money.
Flat out sucker pricing is all it is.
Woah woah woah...I didn't see that they want to force a tethering plan on you when using the dock. I honestly cannot fathom how someone
in congress/government cannot see the blatant illegal practices going on by wireless companies and multiple data plan fees for the same data
. Whether you browse on a 4" screen or a 12.4" screen -- data is data. The argument of "you'll consume more with a bigger screen" is rendered invalid because we are already subjected to overage charges. So if we use more than our allotted data, we'll pay accordingly. It is double and triple charging by the carriers and it has to stop. It is things like this that easily justify jailbreaking/rooting/hacking phones and making use of "illegitimate" tethering services.
If it is in fact true that we'll need to pay for a normal data plan and then a tethering plan on top of it, I won't even give the Atrix a glance.
Now, the hardware pricing isn't all that bad. A top end smartphone is typically $200-$300 on contract (and upwards of $500-$700 off contract) anyway. A GOOD
usable laptop is another $600+. $500 isn't bad in this case. Too bad the service is highway robbery.
