Lvl 10 Lighting/Plastic Mod - Page 2

1) they don't make a lot noise. they are suplied with molex connector

2) it's a string that lights up, but when you cut the string, it doesn't work anymore.

3) you better take a red one, so your bar in top of case lights up nice red with the red acryl

Has anyone tried the EL Strip material? If it glows nicely and is as flat as described, could be another nice alternative. May be able to adhere it right onto the red plastic insert and not have to do tear into the case too much.

Was a great extended stay back home in the states, but now it's back to work in China. I'm satisfied with the condition the build was left in. Here are some shots:

What was done:

- Installed White LED power and reset switches (filing required to fit reset switch; chassis was tight to solder in imo)
- Installed Lamptron FC5v2 Fan Controller, set to White display
- Replaced red LED fans with 3k RPM Gentle Typhoons (+ additional)
- Drilled new holes for exhaust fans and H50 radiator to be mounted without clearance issue
- Added White LED light strips inside the MB compartment
- Disconnected undesired case LED leads
- Modified ODD bay to allow all three 5.25" devices to be front mounted
- Covered central tower channels with black vinyl (to cover red plastic)
- Removed silver Thermaltake branding on drive bay enclosure (anyone have advice on how to remove the white etched logos?)

There are probably some things I am forgetting, but you get the picture, haven't done anything extreme with my first mod endeavor.

Still entertaining ideas about changing the HDD indicators and adding the the white illuminated strip to the central tower. Also happy to hear your suggestions for other additions.

Cheers

Very nice lighting mod. I have a Level 10 as well and thinking about doing some minor mods so I can put a taller air cooler into it.

Talking about China, I just saw a crazy Level 10 mod on a Chinese computer forum, custom made internal water cooling kit for Level 10, it was pretty bad ass.

Link to more pictures of the mod nardox referenced (plus a cute dog in there). Interesting site I had not been too before, thanks nardox. Hopefully they open registrations soon (not that I would be able to participate very much as my zhongwen leaves a lot to be desired).

I'll admit they missed the mark with the red cover, but I like some other elements of the WC setup. The side mounted assembly actually adds a bit more balance to the design, and probably helps with the slight listing that sometimes occurs in a full Lvl 10. Though taking that whole thing off every time you need to get into the central channel would probably be a challenge.

It seems that the radiators are only in pull setup, and I would think getting large volumes of cool air flow is further hindered by the indirect intake openings (which do look nice). With big radiators and a good pump/res it probably gets the job done alright though.

May WC mine in the future and this has me second guessing my original plan. Was just going to do 2-3 120mm radiators (push/pull) inside the MB tray connected to a dual 5.25" pump/res up in the ODD compartment. Was already debating whether it was worth the near $1k my proposed WC mod would cost, and this would substantially increase that figure.

Would like to contact that guy and see if he can/will fabricate another set of parts more cheaply than I could. I would probably also then want to remove the red acrylic strip and mod the case to allow air flow to enter from the central column as well.

Damn, think I may have been bitten by the bug...

The red thing IS UGLY, lol
but overall I think it's a nice mod, definitely added some cooling power to the Level 10, but just not as crazy as your Chiller mod

Chiphell will open for new user registration on March 1st(I'm a regular on their site)

I think the guy who did the mod said all the custom fabricated parts(CNC milled) cost him about 4K RMB or around 600USD, the radiators and other stuff probably cost another couple hundred USD. (he listed all the parts he used but I don't know much about WC so no clue how much those parts cost)

BTW which city do you work in in China?
