i5 2500k Temp question

Thread Starter
Just got all of my parts today and put them all together and was wondering if my temps were kinda high on Prime 95 on load getting 72C and idle around 39C using stock cooler. With no Overclock

For the stock cooler that sounds about normal actually..
I'm no Intel/Sandy Bridge expert, but 75c on a stock cooler? That's pretty excessive to me even if the cooler is stock.
It alright for the stock cooler.

The stock cooler is relatively weak. Invest at least in something like a cooler master 212+ if you want to do some moderate overlooks. Or even better, a Corsair H50 should bring down your temps even further and give you even more room for overlocking.

Don't worry, those temps are relatively normal for the stock cooler

Thanks for such a speed reply! Another couple questions if
I wanted to overclock what temps should i start getting worried about? also i noticed when my CPU is doing Prime 95 for a while the Turbo boost only has it go up to 34x as opposed to 37x. is this because the temps are to high? any helpful response appreciated!

if the max that you see in prime95 after an hour or more is at or below 80C, I'd say you're alright, but I'd get uncomfortable if I went above that at all

Turbo works when an application isn't optimized for all four cores. So for example if you run Prime95 single threaded as opposed to 4, you'll see the turbo kick in, and the multiplier will go up.
