4ghz+ 1090t w/ crosshair iv, what cooler?

Thread Starter
Hey i want to get a crosshair iv mobo with a 1090t and i was wondering what cooler would be best to oc past 4ghz.

Ive thought that i would want to watercool but idk if it would be worth it cause ive heared of so many people OCing past 4ghz on this cpu on just air with no troubles.
And good water is so god damn expensive...
Good air is better than bad water.

thanks for your input

I'd go with the noctua nh-d14, which I was going to get but was out of stock. The Cooler Master v8 in my sig has been doing the job though without a hitch.

Noctua nh-d14 or the h70 from corsair.. both coolers can let you go up to 4ghz or more depending on the chip.

yeah ive been thinking about the V8. Im just wondering if there are any coolers out there that do a good job AND look good doing it. Im not a huge fan of big chunky blocks of heat sink, and my new case will have a window on it

Don't forget the Archon and Silver Arrow if you're gonna recommend NH-D14.
It's chip dependent, not all can make 4ghz, but from what I can tell most usually do. Shouldn't be too hard though, probably difficult if you were to use a p/p 212+ though, but a 1090T can OC fairly easily to 4ghz on good air/water cooling.

I hear the V8 sort of sucks at cooling for how much it's worth. If you want something that looks nice, I say go for water, real water like the Rasa XSPC kits not the in-between Corsair H50/70 ones, that is if you got the budget and maintenance patience for it.

Get like a Megahalems or a Dh14 and put some LED fans on it then, as that IMO opinion looks better then the gimmicky V8, both will do a much better cooling job as well.

And if you want chunky blocks, go for the Thermaltake Frio, or Scythe Mugen 2, I hear the V8 sort of sucks at cooling for how much it's worth.
[edit] Also add the Thermalright HR-02 for another chunky box shaped cooler that does well.
i think you misread i DONT like chunky coolers. I want to be able to look in my case and see more than a giant block.

The cooler in my sig keeps my chip below 55 @ 3.9 in the summer in California. Looks good but is kind of loud. Doesn't bother me though.

Yeah I reread it and edited it again. Well something not chunky but tall and wide would be the Archon, it's pretty thin compared to many other coolers.
