I have four games in my PSP collection (only have 5 total right now) that top 40 hours easily, with the fifth clocking in at around 15-20. A handful that I'm looking to buy are 30+ hours and mimic console experiences. Games like Persona 3 Portable, Valkyria Chronicles II, Star Ocean: First Departure/Second Evolution, Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, etc.

Plus, the 3DS isn't just a DS with 3D. Compare screenshots or gameplay videos to anything on the DS now. It blows it out of the water. If developers forgo 3D effects I'd imagine they'll be able to squeeze quite a bit of eye candy out of it.

DS (Kingdom Hearts re:Coded)

3DS (Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance)

See those are good examples of full length PSP games and I for have had very few of those full length experiences. When I say gorgeous I mean drop dead astounding, which a quad core PowerSGX543 can provide so this will blow anything previous to it out of the water. That's what I'm saying, the 3DS with kingdom hearts that you gave as an example looks like a low Gamecube game which is saying a lot. But NGP will easily produce quality amongst the likes of PS2 and now there won't be so few titles that are long and so far between. I think the longest I've spent on a nintedo DS game besides Pokemon and Mario(Pokemon is easily somewhere in 100+ and Mario .... Man I dont even know) Dragon Ball Z, and Final Fantasy would be... Metroid @ 16hrs. It's been close to 2 years so I can't remember exactly...
PSP I've played battlefront 2 for more than 100 hours but others I've played maybe 20 hrs tops? Racing games especially piss me off... *** man where is your free roam.. Like TDU or nfs.. TDU on Pc is one of my most favorite games of all times.. Psp version was horrible, looked horrible, played horrible, races were horrible, everything was bad. Nfs was no different. Neither was juiced. Yeah I play a lot of racing games. Meh I played a lot on FF1 but come on, There's killzone which was alright not terribly long or console length, midnight club was short and bad aswell... Size matters would have to be my longest at what 20 hrs?

That's short. Look at all those short games. That look terrible. This is 2011, give me nice looking things. My iPhone has better games I feel sometimes. Zenonia 1 and 2 combined I played around 120 hours, and then there's games like dead space and infinity blade that are fun to play and nice and you don't feel short changed. And this is a cell phone. This isn't the 90s there fore I do not want graphics that look like the 90s. NGP = devs just take a console game and jam it into a tint memory drive. Nothing excised.

Here's my iPhone pics of awesomeness btw:

Infinity Blade.

Dead space

See my point? This is an iPhone man. Android phones have better GPUs too (aka SAMSUNG GALAXY S). but no dev ever specifically codes for them which is sad. But they can handle any kind of game with ease, atleast the SGS can.

My point is, why not just revamp the DS and keep what you had going you know. DS was great the way it was, maybe add some more power so devs have more utilities at their disposal and that's it. Slightly more integration with the Wii would be nice too, the exact same games would be nice. Not little mini companion games.
NgP is atleast going off of the success of the PSP forumla, have a large screen, little control pad, dpad and familiar layout of a play station controller so gamers feel right at home. NGP is the PSP v2 which is what people want. I want DS v2, not Zombie Vritual Boy shoved in with an extra stylus on two tiny screens. Fun. Tiny screens of fun. Lots and lots of 3D fun. /sarcasm.

Neither the PSP or 3DS look like anything from the 90s though...

The 3DS is almost exactly what you just described, and is in no way similarto the Virtual Boy or what they were doing with 3D in the 90s. It's more powerful than the DS while at the same time retaining all the redeeming qualities of its predecessor. Analog nub, 3D, more storage space for games, online play, Game Boy Virtual Console, etc.

I'd also much rather have two "big enough" screens at 3.5" and 3" than one 5". The DS's two 3" screens, when used well, added more worth through gameplay than the PSP's 3.5" screen did through pretty visuals, and I can see the same happening with the 3DS and NGP.

Every game that's been shown off on the system is going to be making use of 3D, which means the image has to be rendered twice. Now imagine if a developer decides that 3D isn't worth it and opts not to use it. I'd wager they could end up with an even prettier game.

I'm also not sure why you keep stressing the idea that 3DS games will be so short with limited content/functionality. You do realize that the vast majority of games on consoles now clock in at under 10 hours? The PSP and DS already have a significant number of games that can beat that. The 3DS's rumored 2GB+ cartridges are also considerably larger than the DS's 128MB, and a bit more than the PSP's 1.3GB UMDs. I also doubt that 2GB is the limit. Heck, the 3DS already has a port of Tales of the Abyss (originally on PS2) in the works, which is a 45+ hour game, as well as SMT: Devil Survivor Overclocked (20-30 hours). There's no reason why 3DS games will be limited to "companion" games.

Original PSP's all the way to 3000 models are 4.3" not 3.5. The PSP go is 3.8. The bigger screen is way better than two tiny screens. I was just playing my DS on the bus and I forgot how crappy the screens are.

DS XL has good ones though.

5" is perfect! Plus I'm sure they will release a PSP Go style one eventually too.

Also for half the games the 2nd screen is basically pointless ( one button click and a slight second pause away ). Not to mention the best games for DS are actually GBA games imo .

Yea I'd agree here. What I would REALLY like to see would be this on the 3DS:
1. A top screen just as good as the NGP
2. GPU just as good if not better than the NGP so they can really pull out some 3D
3. A second analog stick just like the NGP

Overall though I really enjoy the games that will come out for the 3DS more than the NGP. I've never really enjoyed playing sony's games, unless it was on the console system in my theater room (100 inch HD Projection screen)

I really would like to find myself immersed in a world even though its a small screen, something that throws me back to the old days like Legend of Zelda, or Pokemon, or even Mario Kart might be able to do that.

And I def agree with the second screen thing. The only game I can see myself truly benefiting from that is Legend of Zelda, I remember hating having to pause to equip a certain arrow, or the hookshot, or what have you so I can continue to play. That is of course if they let the second screen be that sort of menu screen while I play hahaha.

Because I have never really enjoyed any games offered on Nitendo devices (except, for SSBM and SSBB). The NGP on the other-hand, looks like a promising device with good games. The hardware on the NGP is also far more appealing IMHO. IDRC about the 3D, and frankly I dislike it. However, I am not saying the 3DS is going to be bad. I just prefer the NGP and will probably only be purchasing the NGP.
