Another one with q9450 oc problems

Hi,

Would like to OC my quad to around 3-3.4Ghz, but as im doing this for the first time i have a few problems (google didnt help much so im writing here).

I have tryed a few settings, but i feel like my mobo (with the 1066 rams) doesnt want me to keep it stable - keeps crashing within 5 minutes in prime95 all the time.

Did use the following:
FSB -> 400 MHz
Vcore -> 1.25 V
rest is set on auto

It gives me ofc 3.2 ghz, but im sure something else has to be changed, because i cant set SPD in bios to 1066 - multiplier in this bios have options like (auto/2.00/2.50/3.00/3.50/4.00+):
- using the auto mode i get an instant crash and bios instantly change settings to default (2.66ghz)
- with 2.00 gives rams working @ 800 (ratio 1:1, but crashing in prime95)
- with 2.50 @ 1000 etc..

My goal would be, running rams @ 1066 (more wouldnt hurt?) with the q9450 overclocked to around 3.2ghz (maybe more?), so I need an advice on how to set this stuff to have it running stable 24/7.

Just guess that some voltages need adjustments? or?

I will provide more info asaigh, rest can be found in my sign.

Cheers

1.25v is too low for a Q9450, you want to have it at 1.3v. thats prob half the reason your not getting through Prime 95. also set your ram to 2.0 multi, you should be able to reach 3.6-3.8ghz easy on a Q9450. make sure you manually set your ram timings to the spec along with your Dram voltage to spec. its on the sticker attached to the ram sticks

Ok, so i have changed rams timings and voltage manually to 5-5-5-15 @ 2.1v, and this works fine..
but setting vcore to 1.3v didn't give much, as pc crashed on the bot screen at fsb set to 450x8.

btw, everest says that my CPU VID is 1.1500/1.2500v

Use CoreTemp program to read your CPU's VID but before you do you need to disable C1E,SpeedStep,CPU TM,and to set your multiplier manually to 8x..

Also you're running a P35 chipset mobo so you'll need to have your work really cut out for that 450MHz FSB on Quad CPU..

Try to set your vNB to 1.40V (MCH voltage) and set vFSB to 1.30V (CPU Termination voltage/VTT)..

CHEERS..

and that 450mhz FSB was just a shoot tongue.gif , basically im thinking about a stable 3.2 or 3.4 on this p35, so 1.3v on vcore is a minimum? how about other settings? and yet that ram stuff i mentioned on the first post.. help please.

Pay attention to that Static tRead Value. It's the Performance Level setting. Do not leave it at Auto. On my system it works at 8 at these speeds. Try to increase it if you get stability problems.

Disabled all that, except for Virtualization feature. Good Luck! My bios should be very similar to yours. So you should really pay attention to all of my settings wink.gif

So i got this.. and it looks ok, but sadly prime95 is crashing within 5 seconds on this frown.gif

our bios are indeed very similar, the only difference i see is the "Loadline Calibration" (set as default to auto) which i have under the CPU voltage control.

Ok so im pushing that tRead value.. - will this be enough? or should i work some with other voltage values?
