Switching CPUS.

Thread Starter
Tomorrow, once I pick up my thermal paste, I'll be taking the E8400 out and putting a Q8400 in.

Just want to check that the new CPU is compatible (They're both 45nm, I think) and is there anything else I need to know..?
Not asking how to swap the cpus as I know that already but I don't want to go ahead and do it to hear a sizzle and smell burnt mettle as I boot my PC up(I learnt before, just because it fits, doesn't mean it will work).
Is there anything to do with software or the BIOS I need to change? etc (BIOS was flashed late last year)

There shouldn't be any issues with the Q8400 running on your board listed in specs.

The only thing I would recommend is clearing your BIOS before booting up with your Q8400. You don't want to run your Q8400 with your already saved E8400 settings.

EDIT:

I like how you just changed avatar, lol.

OK, awesome .

Any idea what OC'ings going to be like? The E8400 does 3.6 on stock volts or very close to stock volts with no problems. Not expecting the same from the Q8400 but don't know what to expect either.
