Thuban CPU/GPU Ambient to Load Deltas?

Thread Starter
Just want to see where I am at...
  • HWMonitor 1.1.7
  • IntelBurnTest 2.5.0
  • Any GPU Stress Tool
CPU (4.3 GHz @ 1.565v) ambient to load ΔT = 36°C
GPU (1000/4500 @ 1.88v) ambient to load ΔT = 20.5°C

Ambient temp (15.0°C) read off a Kestrel 4200 with a published accuracy of ±1°C.

Posted deltas are repeatable across multiple sessions. What kind of numbers are you guys pulling?

Here's my results, Not sure what you meen by Delta though

4.1Ghz ( 1.485v in BIOS which is 1.5v in Windows which becomes 1.548v under load )
GPU's are at 850Mhz core with stock voltage.

Ambients are around 20c, maybe slightly higher as I have central heating on quite high.

You can only see the temp for 4 of the 6 cores but they're the same across all 6

We have the same board, What's your Vcore setting in BIOS? In Windows and finally under load? Do you have LLC turned on?

I've been thinking my temps are a bit on the high side for a while as everyone says they should be lower but for a 4.1Ghz 6 core I think they're acceptable...

Ambient to load delta temps would represent the difference between your max load temp and the ambient temp which you tested under. In your case, the ambient to load ΔT = 70°C - 20°C = 50°C at worst if your ambient assesment is accurate.

Don't worry what everyone says. They key factors is determining whether your numbers are high are 1. accurate ambient readings off a thermometer, or a similar temperature metering device in order to provide a proper delta 2. additional delta temp feedback from others (assuming accurate ambient readings on their part) .

LLC is enabled. CPU voltage is at 1.565v (LLC to 1.57v idle and up to 1.72v load). What should also be mentioned is that CPU-NB voltage (in order to stabilize 3360 MHz for a separate OC profile [posted numbers were run at CPU-NB 3185 MHz]) is at 1.55v as well.

LLC is enabled. BIOS voltage for CPU at 1.525v (LLC to 1.55v idle and 1.59v load).
So my delta is around 40c then, is that good or bad? I use Xigmatek fans, 60cfm @ 1500RPM.

And is your chip IBT stable at those voltages? How many runs?

4.3ghz 1.53v 35c load (core) - 15c ambient = 20c

Is this with IBT/LinX and HWMonitor and how did you read your ambient ?

Looks good if your assessment of the ambient temp which you tested under is accurate. However, we need additional feedback with accurate ambient readings and the use of standardized tools (i.e. IBT/LinX/HWMonitor) in order to determine just how good your numbers really are...

Not with OCP enabled, which limits the voltage the chip receives to 1.59v. If I disable OCP, 4.3 GHz (4287 MHz) is stable through at least five runs with voltage spiking to 1.72v and holding through most runs at 1.64v (the reason I do not run IBT for over five runs, regardless of temperature). The deltas I posted are off runs with OCP disabled.

probably not the most accurate way lol, but i just checked the thermostat, and "test" w/ f@h in ubuntu.. using open case w/ rad sitting outside
post #9 of 16
Thread Starter
So f@h under Ubuntu with lm-sensors (typically reads 5°C to 10°C higher than HWMonitor under the same system) sees an ambient to load ΔT = 20°C using a home thermometer as a temperature gauge.

If by rad outside you are referring to placing the rad outside of the case while remaining indoors, then same here.
