Should I risk OCing this 955? - Page 3

Yeah I have been finding that the weather in Aus is up the creek for overclocking.

But those temps if at load are sorry to say are rubbish, but since I have to deal with high temp also in Ballarat I feel your pain.

I haven't overclocked yet due to the weather and I use a D14 for cooling. But yeah I am seriously considering liquid cooling just because of the hot summers.

I'll try reseating and have a look - the only thing was it was idling at 46 when it was 26 outside
26 outside but it might be closer to 36 inside your case.

Hey mates mr. Canadian here lol but yeah im running a 900e chip which naturally runs cooler because of lower power consumption yada yada. But basically the highest overclock your going to get out of it is 3.3GHz which im perfectly fine for the insanely low price I paid for it. And for ambients its around 18 Celsius in my room right now little chilly but all the better for my 27 Celsius and 47 C under load I believe. So yeah there are cooler phenom chips out there lol

Ok I've reapplied TIM and reseated the HSF... I don't think I'll be doing any OCing anytime soon

At least I can OC my GPU it's idling at 47C

I did 10 mins of LinX and the CPU maxed at 61C. It's currently idling at 43C.

I'm a little worried the VenX might not fit in my case, or only just fit... am I better off with a more compact cooler?

I have Air con, so 22C is basically my ambient all year long.

We have aircon, but it sucks power like there is no tomorrow - you must be rich to leave it on all the time

What do you mean?

I have it the same way I had it on my athlon, with the fan facing the front of the case.

I'll move the fan now and see what happens to temps

EDIT: Temps were much the same...

I don't know which fans on my case are intake and which are exhaust :S haven't put much thought into it.

I have one at the top, above the HSF, one parallel to the HSF on the back of the case, one at the very bottom front (HDD bays) and the PSU fan which is on the bottom of the PSU. Then just my HSF and GPU fans. It's all cable managed reasonably well (imo).

hmm.. on the ven x fitting it shouldnt be an issue. iirc. there was still room when i fitted a mugen 2 into the cm5 ii. a venx is slightly taller so it shouldnt be an issue.

am gutted for you guys that live in hot country's, lol well not gutted as i'm sure it beats the hell out of us in our cold country's.
At the moment its 18c ambients in the house and my 965 is idling at 28c @ 3.9ghz with 1.424v, just loaded for a few min and got 39c, i'm not going above 40c anytime soon.
So at 18c ambient i'm idling 10c higher giving 28c, allso my load temp is 21c higher than ambient temps giving me 39c load temp, this is with a nh-d14.

I remember a asus cooler i had, that got upto 60+c within a few mins of loading so i had to seriously lower the overclock, the temps for that would of been at least over 50c above ambients if i'd let it run and thats around 70c at full load allthough at a gues i say it would of hit 80c after 10min.

I wonder if it would be around the same temp increase if i was sitting in 35c ambients?

Good coolers work wonders
