And how was Bad Company the wrong direction? The first game was lackluster, but the second is one of the best multiplayer experiences available. I'm glad to have something this great to hold me over during BF3 development.
bc2 was a successor for bc1. it is nothing like bf2.

they should've made bf3 around the time of bc1 and bf3 would've battled it out with cod 4.

Guys,
Ok first of all, I am 31 years old and feel excited like a little kid on christmas morning. Second, I am afraid my new rig won't cut it for 1920x1200 maxed. i7 2600k @ 4.3 should be fine, but the 2x GTX 570 SLI is expected to manage 40-50fps at low to medium settings.
When BFBC2 came out, nothing ran it maxed until new cards came out. I expect the same here. What do you guys think? BFBC2 gets around 100fps but I expect BF3 to be massively more demanding in a huge, crysis-like way. 64 players? Yeah, better have dual keplers.

I'm pretty sure you'll be fine with 570 SLi...

I'm really excited for this. I was hardcore into BF2 and the expansions. TV missiles and Cartillery anybody?

My last rig, E8400 and GTX 260-216 SLI ran BFBC2 on high at less than 20fps. That was a high end setup until BFBC2 came around and destroyed it. So I am afraid of the same damn thing happening. I think a major reason COD is so successful is because a wide range of people can ACTUALLY PLAY IT. If BF3 is another crysis, then its not going anywhere. The online experience will suck hardcore, especially if people with GTX580's are getting 25-30fps in heated battles. Expect that. Don't expect any single card currently out to run the game maxed.

So you want them to spit out ever-so-slightly modified iterations of their games every 1-2 years? (points at CoD)

BC2 is a large-scale multiplayer war game. While there are definitely major differences between it and BF2's styles, they are alike. Regardless, I don't see how that is a point. I didn't say BC2 was a successor to BF2; the BC games have been intermediaries, maybe on purpose, maybe on accident.

Did you read what I wrote? CoD happened to hit a ridiculously large audience. That's the trend with consoles; it's much more accessible and common than PC gaming is.

I couldn't care less about numbers. Hannah Montana and Justin Bieber sell like no other; that doesn't mean they're good artists, if you can call them that. CoD is subpar in many ways; they simply sell because of the aforementioned reasons. BF3 is coming out because it's an inevitable successor to an extremely successful game, not because they need something to fall back on after a failed experiment.

I agree that their foray into consoles didn't go so well. Bad Company had quite a few flaws, but DICE developed a fantastic sequel. I don't consider that one try at consoles as abandoning their roots; DICE is one of the few good developers still loyal to the PC.

GTX 570 SLI will play the game plenty well, if not perfectly. Frostbite 2.0 will look better, but they're also making fantastic performance optimizations. If I can max out BC2 with 60+fps, I doubt that vastly superior setup will be brought to its knees by a game that needs to keep performance in mind (64 players on a giant-ass map, anyone?). Then again, they might throw some crazy shizz at us.

While bc2 is different, it's still a good game.

again, read the posts before posting. bc1 and bc2 were already made. I'm saying those should've been scrapped for bf3 and bf4

we are talking about the same genre, so the bieber analagy doesn't fly. if you want to talk about the best "pop singers", then yes, bieber is the best. if you want to talk about the best music in general, then that is another story. we are talking about fps war games, not best games in general.

It's great DICE is saying they are doing justice to the PC, but they sold out a long time ago to the console with bc1 and bc2. BC2 on the PC outsold the console, so they are running back to the pc with bf3... which i'm saying they should've done long time ago and not made bc1.

you ignoring the numbers just makes any argument against you null. that's like someone saying they couldn't care less about logic or rationality. gg.

They did start with 10 maps, but they were separated by game modes.

The thing is, BC2 map design wasn't really the best available, you could tell they could have done way better if they really wanted to release a good map.

All they did was just add different spawn points to old maps and switch the game modes around, and then port "successful" old maps from previous games. If they had released mod tools, the community could have had done that and saved them the payroll.

Now, what i'm really looking forward to is a WORKING NETCODE. If they do that, they can have all my moneys.
