About to buy P410/512 controller

Hey guys,

Im about to buy a HP P410 raid controller with 512mb BBWC. link

I will run a 4x 2tb Raid5 array as data drive and a 2x 160gb Raid1 array for Win Server 2008r2 system drive.

Opinions?

Would I be better off with a different controller? I cant buy an 5i off ebay sadly, and I need 6 drives, possibly more in the future. (not more than 8 tho)

Thanks,

tom

Can you go direct to Dell?

I would take a PERC 6 ahead of a P410, even more so as it's cheaper.

I've looked around and it seems I can not get a Perc6 easily. I could do direct from dell, but i would have to wait for around 2 weeks and very probably pay import tax. Also, I can get a 410 with the BBWC and cables kit for 350 euro, which is about the same as the PERC.

Should I really go out of my way to get PERC. Any ideas what the difference in performance is on these 2 controllers? Information on the 410 is very hard to find. I found some threats that the p400 has poor raid5 performance, but they also said that it should be fixed in the p410.

Ah, the joys of living on the edge of current tech.
