Generally 6ft+. I believe the standard is around 8ft, where its a constant temp all year long. And you will want to space each run 4-5ft apart.

doing qite a bit of excavation in my trade i find it as soon as u hit 3 ft it gets chilly in the hole

now geo loops no matter how deep u go have to be as long as possible
lets say u did a 10m trench 4-5 ft deep 2ft wide and u sent the pipe in a zig zag to maximize ur surface area after about 12hrs of folding or gaming or benching the ground temp will go up by about 10c and it will take about 12 hours for the ground to cool off again

so the problem with geo loops is u have really no control over ur temps lets say u just start ur rig up after a day or so the ground might be 15c cooler then ur air temp and u will get condensation

thats why i built a chiller and called it a day biggrin.gif

but u will say chiller will eat power with the chiller built to ur needs and running in cycels i burn about 1/4 of a KW per day and my loop is 10c sub ambient 24/7

with a geo loop running 20m of pipe u will need a 1 hp pump pushing ur water around and u will burn close to 10 KW per day

so the green idea is not always that green biggrin.gif

save the pipe and go with a chiller the tools will cost u around 200-300$ a old window a/c can be had for free some tinkering and testing and u have a chiller

lets put it this way if u like fixing cars and u have common scene u can build a chiller in a few days

if u are not sure how to design it i can draw u up a design that i know works and if ur not sure u can build the evap chiller part, I can build the evap rez that makes the water cold with cap tube and suction tube all u would have to do is make 2 braze joints pull a vac and charge

i remember talking to u and u live in Australia and shipping and different voltage makes it hard for me to build a whole unit but the evap is light under 4lbs so shipping shouldn't be to bad

now if ur still not sure u can do it u can always bring ur a/c and evap to a refrigeration shop and have them braze it and charge it up for u

track down a window a/c uint mostly free

if i build the evap rez 50-60$ materials 100$ for the work and 40$ tops to ship it

it shouldn't take a shop longer then 2-3 hours to do the work and they will charge u for the gas used + the hourly rate

or u can call ur friends and see if anyone knows of somebody who is in the trade and will do the work for lots of beer and littel $$

no mater how u do it it should all cost u in the end no more then 400$ Canadian

not sure what that is in ur $$$
