Get a refund. Intel is recalling all the sandy bridges and newegg stopped selling everything using Sandy Bridge and the Sandy Bridge chips

I have this batch. Let me say that it could be a lot better.

It needs about 1.385-1.4 vcore with LLC 2 and PLL on for 4.8-4.9 ghz. Can't even post with a multiplier of 50+. Also, can't post if BCLK is past 100.5. I'm running on a GB P67A-UD7 Bios F7E.

I just arranged an RMA with newegg. Since they don't have any in stock, they're giving me a full refund. Hope to pick up a better batch from somewhere else.

I haven't seen many week 45 chips OC'd, but what has been posted seems to have had similar results. YMMV.

ETA: I wish people would refer to this chipset problem as a "Cougar Point" recall rather than Sandy Bridge. It would be more accurate and cause far less confusion.

seems like even within the same batches OCes are way different. Try to see how high your OC is without CPu pLL Overvoltage, then your MAX with CPupLL overvoltage should be 4-5 multipliers higher.

Thanks for the advice, Sin. I'll give it a try when I get home and post results.

Yep, there's a lot of variation even with the same batch, so you can't rely on the batch number to tell you if a certain chip will be a good overclocker. One chip sitting right next to another chip on the same wafer can have different attributes at the microscopic level causing them to perform differently.

A batch on average may be better or worse than another batch on average, but that doesn't mean within the batch there still aren't chips that overclock poorly or chips that overclock really well.
