i know cause i have owned a 5850 and am using a 470.

are you sure you're not just balla's brother? or possibly bf?
I don't even know balla, I'm simply pointing out the facts. And I wasn't talking about 60fps in that specific bench, I was just talking about gaming in general.

O RLY?!

ever heard of frame capping in most games?

ever heard of ram bottlenecks?

ever heard of pci-e bandwidth bottlenecks?

so i guess that every game that isn't furmark is being bottle necked by CPU

Don't be mad my single gtx 470 is able to come within a few fps of your more expensive crossfire setup
antuk15, you're wrong. I compared my dual GTX 470s aswell as single GTX 470 vs balla's and the i7 just gets the most out of his 470 even more in games. Vantage is almost like a best case scenario scaling wise, in games your 5850s will hardly see full usage. I score about the same as you on my dual 470s (27k GPU). Your 1075T is hardly any better than my Q9550 @ 3,8-4,0GHz. You could be getting 29-30k GPU on those 5850s with a good i7.

Run Vantage Xtreme for example, you'll most likely still get respectable FPS. IAW you're being bottlenecked.

If I was in your position I would just wait until sandy bridge is sorted out and grab an i5 2500k or wait for bulldozer. Under no circumstances should you go with a phenom II X6, for gaming it wouldn't do much of anything compared to your current CPU.

EDIT: I just noticed that the OP had already listened to advice and made his decision on the first page, the other ten pages have been fun though!

I guess thats why in every modern game I play,(crysis, metro, just cause 2, DIRT 2, Bad Company 2) My gpus max out at 90-100% and stay there aside from when extremely cpu intensive parts occur(buildings falling in bc2) and my gpu usage drops.(resulting in the lowest minimum fps I ever recieve) But nope, you are totally right!

Also the only cards that recieve any sort of bottleneck from pci-e bandwidth at 8x are the 480, 570, 6950, 6970 and 5970. And even then its 5% at max. On top of that, even if they were receiving a pci-e bandwidth bottleneck they still would show 100% on gpu-z.

And I'm sorry but name one modern game that fps caps aside from crappy console ports.

If you aren't getting 90-100% gpu usage in any of those games with your setup there is something wrong.

The simplest way would be to show you -

This is a cpu bottleneck:

The cpu can't push the gpus to their max, thus the cpu is slowing down "bottlenecking" the gpus. Getting a faster cpu is advised.

This is a gpu bottleneck:

The cpu is more than capable of pushing this gpu, because the gpu is always maxed out it is the bottleneck in the system, adding more gpu power is advised.

My Phenom 2 is quite a bit faster then your Q9550, Especially as it's clocked higher and that Vantage does actually use all 6 cores compared to your 4 cores.

And if you bothered to read my posts you'll see that I said I'm held back by my Phenom 2 but it's just to get me buy until bulldozer hits the shelves.

And Vantage is bad in terms of scaling..

Metro 2033
STALKER Series
Resi Evil 5
Crysis ( 90% of the time )

And loads of other games all see 90%+ on each GPU....

And in terms of gaming my system is faster then his and anyone who argues that is in idiot..

How about we run a game benchmark then?

STALKER Benchmarks?
Crysis?

Yeah, I was talking about multi GPU support. Your PHII only manages to get a measly 25.5k out of that pretty hardcore 5850 CF setup. My Q9550 gets 27.2k out of my GTX 470s. Do you get the picture? Of course it's going to beat my Q9550 in the CPU bench since it has 6 cores and DDR3. I'm just saying that in gaming and pushing GPUs our CPUs are pretty similar.

This is my score:

http://3dmark.com/3dmv/2889108

And comparable PHII X6 1090T scores:

http://media.photobucket.com/image/4...nch800core.jpg

http://3dmark.com/3dmv/2809527

i7 2600k SB @ 3.5GHz:

http://3dmark.com/3dmv/2875507

EDIT:

Pretty good idea if you ask me. I don't have Crysis installed but I'd like to do a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. comparison. I'm not sure how it's going to turn out though.

EDIT2:

Lol this statement made me laugh:

It's not called NVantage for nothing...... It's always run better on Nvidia hardware... 3D Mark 2006 on the other hand... Syntehtics do nothing for me, You can't play Vantage....

And similar game performance? Depends on the game, If it run my 6 cores I'll get more GPU performance as they'll be more CPU performance to push my 5850's..

What STALKER would you like to do? I have clear sky and the COP bench..

Actually HD5k >> GTX4xx in Vantage because of the texture mapping performance. I'm pretty sure that a single 5850 beats a GTX 470 in Vantage though. The GTX 5xx are on steroids in that bench though, maybe that's where you've got those thoughts from.

Let's do CoP.
