MSi N460GTX Cyclone or Hawk Twin Frozr?

Thread Starter
Hey gents,

Okay I want your opinions on this. I'm running on an n260GTX 1GB Twin Frozr right now, but I'm upgrading.

I'm looking at 2 cards, an MSI n460GTX Cyclone and an n460GTX Hawk Twin Frozr.

Silence isn't all the important to me, I've got about 10 fans and 2 water cooling loops on my system already. Bad ass performance is.

The biggest difference I've noticed is the clocks. According to newegg, the Hawk runs at 780/1560/3600, while the Cyclone runs at 725/1450/3600. The other main thing is the reviews -- Frankly, the Hawk didn't get the kind of reviews the Cyclone does, and although I don't play Starcraft 2, I do like seeing what people say about that game because it is so heavy on resources. The Hawk got mixed opinions, the Cyclone got mostly good opinions on it.

So I leave it in your hands.. What'cha think?

-Philip.

I'd get the Hawk if I could go back.. I was in such a rush to buy the 460 that I just bought the Gigabyte version..

Twin Frozr is a better cooler imo, and it does come clocked higher. There's no reason a Hawk would perform worse in SC2... they're the same card.

I'm with you Booty, I wonder if those complaining about the Hawk not doing so hot in SC2 are experiencing CPU bottlenecks... No bottlenecks here, my hexacore pwns

Hawk edition, they run cooler and have a better binned GPU so you'll be able to overclock it higher than the cyclone.

I'd personally go for the HAWK, the cooler is superior to the Cyclone (which is a bloody good cooler anyway), add some VRM heatsinks to the HAWK and you've got a complete winner with some high clocks and 1.15-ish voltage.

Im using a 460 cyclone as we speak and I managed to overclock it to 880MHz stable on air and my temps never crack 70 celsius. (Oh and dont pay attention to my sig rig I havent updated it in a while lol.

compare that to my 855mhz on stock volts
and barely breaks 56 that too in crysis....
idle temp 28
load while playing gta 4 51c
it has got an amazing cooler.....
and btw dont go for the hawk version if u choose hawk over cyclone
go with the talon attack hawk its a newer revision of hawk
with better memory with tighter timings and 811mhz core instead of 780mhz.....
