building a new AMD PC, suggestions and advice needed

Hello guys,

I am building a new PC with the following set up for gaming and working with Reason/Pro Tools apps.

AMD Phenom II 1055T - £140
Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD5 mobo - £130
Asus HD 6870 GPU - £170
Corsair 650W TX PSU - £65
Corsair vengeance 2 x 4Gb Ram - £95
WD 1Tb caviar black HDD - £68
Coolermaster CM690 II advanced/lite(basic) case - £75/£55

I plan to overclock it with stock cooler until I have more funds to buy a H50 or something similar. It'd be nice if I can buy AM3+ mobo now and be ready for bulldozer but they're nowhere to be seen.... so I chose this mobo which is a lot cheaper than Asus Crosshair Formula IV around here. Is it a better choice than the Asus considering the price and their features? (not bothered about the sound card difference, I already have a MOTU Ultralite Hybrid)

Also want to know if I should be looking out for a different brand for the RAM,PSU,GPU,and Case in the same sort of price range. I plan to max out the RAM to 16Gb and set up cross fire in the future.

I currently have a 3 years old iMac and it is crap at gaming. Recently, the HDD was fried and had to replace it just from playing WOW. Thats why I'm heading back to PC. Intel setup will cost more for me and the sandybridge thing put me off to choose AMD instead. I haven't built a PC from scratch in a while and would appreciate any suggestion or advice from here.

Thanks
iMac

never really had a need for a soundcard, am not really fussed about it, and tbh, i dont hear a difference from a system with an onboard sound card to a system with a dedicated sound card or maybe its just me hehe, i rarely listen to music and all that, when i sit in front of the computer its either i do work or play

anyhow, £800 huh? can suggest something but yeh as B negative asked, what are you planning on using your system for?

I have a MOTU Ultralite Hybrid USB/FW audio interface so I think I'll be fine for that. Cheers =)

for playing games. Only been playing what I can on the Mac (WOW) so will definitely be looking into newer games in the market. And also I'd like to try out music production with it

I would say, in regards to that Gigabyte Board...

If you can afford to wait, then wait at least... two months, before you buy, because AMD should be releasing the AM3+ 990FX Bulldozer chipset, very soon. You can get a AM3+ 990FX board, and put your 1055T on it, and be ready for when the AM3+ Bulldozer CPU's are launched.

Remember, it was March/April of 2010 when AMD launched the 890FX; and word is Bulldozer will be Q1 2011. So the 990FX should be released at around the same time frame! With Intel now being forced to hold off on Sandy Bridge until April, then it would make sense to see AMD try to get Bulldozer out before Intel gets Sandy Bridge back out.

I'm planning to use my Income Tax Return to grab a 990FX to replace my 890GX board.

haha I wonder if i can get back some of my tax back I heard that AMD is releasing Llano first before Bulldozer but anyway I was thinking wether to wait for AM3+ boards or not so if they are to be released sometimes next month or April, it'll be worthwhile to play the waiting game.

Indeed, Just wait mate, you wouldnt want to regret spending money on a system you think you might upgrade in a couple of months. been there, done that... and its not a nice feeling... ';p
