GPU Opinons. (460 vs 5850) - Page 2

I would wait for a sale on the 6950 and then just buy it. You can save $30-$40 buy getting a 6950 and unclocking it to a 6970.

After seeing many mentions of older drivers being better, I reverted to 10.5 and that is what I am on now. I noticed absolutely no difference between every version I have tried, and have come to the conclusion that the people who say that people claiming AMD drivers suck are wrong are people worth listening to. There is nothing wrong with these drivers, and I would update to the newest ones except that I doubt it will make much of a difference for me and I also like the old control center better.
So that means no improvements

In my opinion get a Nvidia card, No need to revert drivers or some bs

I gotta agree with Cpt. Teacup! I love the 5850 so much, I got 2 of 'em. The 5850s in CrossfireX are insane! I get over 26k in 3DMark Vantage.

My 460's been great at 1680x1050. Runs every game I have on decent settings with it clocked at 850/1700/4000. I can reach 900/1800/4400 with a bit more voltage though.

Yes but it does not mean that the drivers are bad. I can't imagine that a driver update will drastically improve performance, rather it will smooth out any bumps and bugs. Besides, most of the later drivers are aimed for the new 6xxx cards if im not mistaken.

And to try to help OP a bit, I'd say that 460 vs 5850 really just depends on the money you're willing to spend on performance. The GTX 460 will give you nice performance for a small price while the 5850 will give you more performance and cost more as well. I'd have to agree with Gabe on the first page though about getting a 5870 rather than a 5850 if that's the way you're leaning.
