Fan overheat my GPU? - Page 2

well, i might get both. might haveta ninjapirate everest lol

and on the program i was using while i was testing it, and next to my card it had a little fire thing. and it was at 62*c.

and about the pc, i know its old, i know its ****ty, i honestly want to kill it half the time. but still, it gets the job done. and i played Battlefied 2142 without overclocking and it was a tad choppy, not bad, but a little choppy. the frames would freeze randomly too for some reason. but after i OCd it, it now runs smooth as silk, and the framerate freezes are gone. and i have it on the highest settings, when before i had it on medium i believe. and like i said, i have no money. and trust me, thats the fist thing i do when i get some.

well, i know its not a ton of work, i just dont wanna risk killing it. cuz knowing me, i wont dry it off all the way, or id miss a spot lol

as for the air, i completely forgot we have an air pump in the basement. its meant to blow up air matresses, would that work?

A small electrical air pump would probably get enough dust out to keep it from overheating. Just be sure to not let the fan spin up really fast. Use a Q-tip or something else to keep it from moving while you blow the dust out.

What temperature is the card actually getting up to? Cards like yours tend to run hot, but unless the temp goes over 90C there's no need to worry.

Yeah no doubt, I understand the money thing is a killer. I'm a business owner fresh out of college with $2500 in bills each month... If I wasn't good at what I do, I'd be sunk by now lol.

An air pump like that likely won't blow hard enough, but hell you never know!

62C is good for that card, you should be able to safely push it to about 75C and be fine. If you wanna get real redneck with it, if you have an air conditioner, put the open side of your PC next to the vents during the summer, and during the winter crack a window and put the open side right next to the window.

I was short on cash once too... We all learn the duct-tape way of life sometime lol.

What you're describing on BF sounds like your CPU is lagging behind. In O/cing the GPU, you're getting that lack made up, the GPU is picking up the slack. You're eventually gonna run into a wall with that, especially with newer games.

it would be better than nothing for sure. you can also use pipe-cleaners if you're careful.

or you could just take off the shroud and get a good look at it. it won't void the warranty.

to stillhouse: ill give that a try

to vector: its a good air pump, and as i said before, my pc doesnt have the side of the case, and my room is ALWAYS cold. i hate it lol. and to be honest, i dont really plan on buying any brand new games. i found that out the hard way when i got oblivion for a stock emachines T2862. and now i know what im doing. and LOLOL to the redneck ideas. although i do have my window open when it gets hot in here.

to clark: that would be easy, theres only 4 screws that hold it on, all i gotta do is take em off and that cover thing is off.

and i got Everest ultimate. i found the temp icons, but i dont know which my card is. the only two that i would think it would be is "Aux" and "GPU diode"
