TB X41 headset only picking up Dolby PL ll2x audio

hey everyone I'm not the most educated when it comes to the tech. aspects of computers but I was hoping someone could help me with this issue.

I'm using the Ear Force x41 Headphones. They work great with my Xbox 360 and I'm trying to set them up with my laptop here now.

I bought a Toslink mini adapter so I've got the digital audio output plugged into the laptops 3.5mm audio jack. The receiver for the headphones is picking up a digital signal, and when I test the supported audio formats in properties (using Windows 7) it works properly. (I click "test" under Dolby Digital and the test audio plays over the headphones in true 5.1, and the proper LED, indicating Dolby Digital 5.1/7.1 audio, lights up on the headphones receiver.

Now, when I play a game or any other audio source the headphone receiver shows that it's receiving just the Dolby Pro Logic llx signal.... rather than the full Dolby 5.1 Surround.

I just don't understand why it's doing this since the headset IS capable of full 5.1 audio in it's current setup state (according to the windows audio properties test), but it wont allow me to use this audio when gaming. Am I missing something here

this freaked me out too but here is the answer..... you will not get dolby 5.1 sound if it is not coded into your media... game, movie whatever. Your system will pick up the best available audio signal.... This would go from worst to best

Dolby Pro Logic (virtualized surround from 2 channel input)
Dolby 5.1
DTS

Also you may have to turn on the dolby settings in your game settings if it does support it

cool thanks for the response, Ive just assumed that the games Im trying to run have had Dolby Digital 5.1 audio coded into them, but I may be wrong there.

After looking at a few game boxes I see everything on Xbox has the Dolby Digital audio tag while on PC most of the games Ive got are showing nothing of the sort (except GTA IV which isnt installed). Dirt 2 shows rapture 3d which I assume is some other sort of digital audio, and everything else shows various other sound tech. I suppose (sound blaster 24 bit HD audio, etc.)

Alright so... thats odd, I would have figured the comp. version of these games would have supported the 5.1 audio if the Xbox did, but that does not seem to be the case. Now I gotta find a video I can DL with the Dolby Digital 5.1 to try this out..
