Is it the CPU?

Thread Starter
So my uncle and me clean out his computer.
Pretty bad, cockroaches on the fan vent and the fan on the heatsink didn't get air to the processor cause it was blocked with dust.

Cleaned entire thing and then booted.
Bios popped up, didn't boot to windows and then it restarted.
Bios then didn't even pop up...
I removed the battery on the mobo and bios popped up during restart and same thing again.

Thought it was hard drive but then i brought it home and tested it.
Works fine
Think it was the processor cause somebody dropped it on the carpet and it got ESD or something lol...
Also, it might be when cleaning a dust bunny went into the processor socket and is blocking something?

Re seat the CPU and try running with just one stick of ram in the slot closest to the proc.

Sound like the CPU is either not mounted properly or the fan is not securely on, and the CPU is shutting down from heat.

Ummmm you dropped it? Well and if it isnt the heatsink then try booting it with just one stick of ram and if that doesnt work, throw in one of the other ram stick until you run out those to test new ones, (lack of a better way to say it)
