Alex Vs MixMag - I was sold transcodes (Refunded and Happy :)) - Page 5

From what I see, the album is no better than a 128kb/s MP3 rip! I can hear a big difference between a poorly recorded album or compressed MP3 versus a proper WAV/FLAC.

I used to not be able to tell the difference until I got my stereo amp and Wharfedale speakers, now it is night and day. With my Asus Xonar D2, I could notice it on some tunes, but with a good speaker setup, I hear it all the time. Even my GF asked me once why one album sounded so much worse than the other and I had to explain it was because it was an MP3.

I'm listening to Mariachi El Bronx now which is a fairly poorly recorded album (low quality), but even it sounds better than bloody Deadmau5...

lossless is amazingly better, especially better than 192 mp3 let's not turn this into a bitrate debate lol, the internets are full of that

If I have to use lossless, it's 320 AAC minimum. Most of the time that'll do for portable. FLAC (or vinyl) at home all the way. Listening on decent headphones 192 MP3 makes my brain hurt and cry in equal measures

Anyway, good to see someone standing up for their rights instead of the usual rollover-and-take-it attitude

First off, good choice in tunes! Mau5 is the man.

Second, did they specifically advertise the WAV version to be 100% lossless?

Technically you did receive WAV tracks so unless they marketed the WAV version of the album as 'fully lossless' then you make be out of luck...

EDIT: Had to post this just in case someone is interested. Deadmau5 discusses crappy sound quality on his blog.

In fact, Nothing makes me vomit in my mouth more than listening to anything short of a 16bit 44.1kHz Wav / Aiff file… perhaps it’s just the audiophile in me… but i am actually witnessing and realizing for the first time in my life something that i have created that has been reduced to some regurgetated re-re-re-re-recording of a set and dubbed “high quality”… quite frankly im a little embarassed.

Nope and that is my main issue. Nowhere on the site does it explain what WAV offers. However, given the price and general assumption of a .WAV is, I feel I have some grounds to be unhappy.

They sell both 192kb/s and 320kb/s MP3's and the FAQ says the latter is better quality. It is also more expensive. General knowledge and the increase in cost led me to believe it would be of a better quality. Essentially, they dressed an MP3 up as a transcode and I guess, hoped no one would notice.

So, yeah, i'm somewhat worried they may say "you paid for WAV, you received WAV".

Nah, he meant if he took something portable, it would have to be 320 aac.

Im glad Deadmau5 feels this way. But until the way music is distributed is sorted to prevent this abuse, and give artists a good share of the profits, its hard to do much
