Alex Vs MixMag - I was sold transcodes (Refunded and Happy :)) - Page 6

sorry, yeah obviously I meant to say "lossy", not "lossless"

They can't get around it by saying "you got it in a WAV file format, what are you complaining about!"

Waste of space tbh. ~192kbps AAC is better than 320kbps CBR / VBR -V0 mp3. 320 AAC is unneeded overkill when there is space and battery life considerations with portable setups. Basing it on a an arbitrary 320kbps with AAC misunderstands the AAC codec. the algorithms are different, with AAC being far more efficient than mp3, thus in turn more information quantity wise and better more accurate information is portrayed in less bitrate. AAC is also far more flexible and feature packed than mp3.

I'll let science via me do the talking if you don't believe me:

Thought so

And yeah, agreed on the fact that this is outrageouos, they just can't say anything like that.

Radiohead's new record, The King Of Limbs, is presented here with a choice of two digital formats:
  • MP3 version is a 320K constant bit rate file.
  • WAV version is a full CD quality uncompressed digital audio file.
^ An example of how to do it properly. I've ordered the double 12" vinyl, so I won't be worrying about file quality, but I thought of this thread when I read that earlier.

@chinesekiwi; the last time I used AAC, I had a 160gb ipod, and I wanted to throw all my music on to it. I know all about AAC and how efficient it is compared to MP3, but battery life and disk space weren't a concern. (well, a concern enough not to use ALAC, but you get the idea )

Finally got in contact. He confirmed this via email:

Quote:
Whereas and MP3 uses a special codec to compress a file and remove some of the low and high frequencies that are inaudible to the human ear, WAV are full uncompressed files where no frequencies whatsover are moved. Thus it's better quality and bigger file size and therefore more expensive to take care of the extra storeage and extra bandwidth on delivery.
Regarding the PP dispute, he has given me his personal mobile phone number to try and sort this issue, but as of 2 phone calls this morning, I cannot get a hold of him.

Not really, bottom line, he paid extra for something that he did not receive.

He already said it was the principal.... he paid extra for something and got the same thing if he didn't pay extra. That's not right.
Once again...

What? Imagine buying a Phenom II X4, then you get it, and it only has 2 cores

You could've got the same thing that you received for a lot less money, so you've been totally ripped off. It's ridiculous to say that it's an unreasonable complaint.
