Am I downgrading or upgrading? Best Bang For My BUCKS

Thread Starter
I have a 6950 that can overclock to 960/1450 @1.3v. This was my first ATI purchase in 10+ years or so and I am very please with the results. I recently sold my multi monitor setup so no more eyefinity for me. I think I'm happy with one monitor at 1920x1200 reso. With that being said, I'm not sure if the 6950 is the best bang for my bucks. I'm thinking of returning the 6950 and getting 2x6850 and pay the difference of $42. This will be my first crossfire setup so I'm very wary on how the performance would compare. On the other hand I don't have to go crossfire I can go sli as well. The biggest drawback is my PSU, which I'm not planning to upgrade, a 550 watts cool master. What is the best bang for my bucks on a 24" monitor @ 1920x1200?

Budget $438
Drawback: 550w PSU.

If you can't tell whether you're upgrading or downgrading, the product at hand isn't worth the effort.

I'd stick with a single card setup.
Less issues and more reliable performance across the board than a multi GPU setup.

I can't tell if I'm upgrading or downgrading because I don't have 2x 6850 to compare against a 6950.

As for single card setup with less issues and more reliable performance is up to the user. There are people who uses multi GPU's and never had any issues.

Point not taken, if you have proof regarding a 2x 6850 vs a single 6950 are only 2/3 +- gain then show it. Talk is cheap and so is your post.

There are also games which net no gain or even worse performance in a CFX setup than with a single GPU..

Based on this review:
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/A...ossFire/2.html

Performance seems to hang around that of a 5970.

I understand . I know very well that there are CF/ SLI issues. I also know some game doesn't support Multi GPU's though more and more games are adapting, especially newer games. All that being said... let's try to stay on topic.

I'm not sure how i back hand you? You posted a general information that 90% of the people on this forum is already aware of. All I said is that I understand where you're coming from but let's try to stay on topic. Don't read to far into it, it'll make you look like an idiot (wait i think I just backhand you... oops).

I always google before posting on this thread FYI. 3 weeks ago I saw a benchmark comparison b/w the two but I can't seem to find it anymore. That's why I posted here for expertise opinion on the matter, not useless remarks or general information.

Edit: Also, I saw that benchmark that you link before posting here. It's useless, the CF performance was compare to a 5970 not a 6950.
