The whole point of make this post is people having no knowledge about video quality and unnecessary transformations of video done by most of the codec packs and VLC's,WMP etc this is the best possible way to run MPC without problems under low CPU usage with best possible image quality.
Advantages of 64bit is fastest seeking in video and low frames drops compared to any player out there.

How to:-(Not for Xp users)
1.Remove all codec packs or anything else like Divx movie player etc
2.Download MPC-HC x64
3.Install ffdshow x64 packs (http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/download.php)
4.Click on SVN 64-bit(http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffds...-bit%20builds/)
5.Get the latest
6.Install MPC first
7.Install ffdshow

MPC-HC configuration:
1.Start MPC then View->Options->Internal Filters->Uncheck all "source filter" except for FLV
2.Under "Transform filters" uncheck everything. On the same page uncheck MPEG2 (DXVA),H264/AVC(DXVA),VC1(DXVA) if u have a high end PC with i7 or core2quad or Enable it if u have dual core with geforce 8000 series+.
3.Click on Output and select "EVR custom pres.**".By default it should be selected.The resizer should be bicubic and value can be set anything for your best image quality suitable for your screen.
4.In audio switcher uncheck everything for unnecessary audio enhancements.
5.Play a movie(anything dvd or hd) right click on the MPC Video screen
Render settings->output range 0-255
6.Again Render settings-> Presentation->Full floating point processing
7.Right click on Video(again :z)->Shaders->"Combine Shaders"->drop down list->select "16-235->0-255 [HD][SD]"
8.Again Right click->Shaders->"Combine Screen Space Shaders"->drop down list->Sharpen Complex 2
9.Close MPC.
10.Download Haali Media Splitter(http://haali.su/mkv/).Install it

ffdshow video configuration:-
1.Start->All Programs->ffdshows x64->Video decoder configuration x64->

Keep Input levels as "Auto" don't force anything here.
2.Be sure every option is unchecked in ffdshow
3.Click on Codecs"left panel"->H264/AVC->under decoder select "ffmpeg-mt"
4. If u have problems with particular codecs trying changing the decoder in the Codecs panel.

ffdshow audio configuration:-

1.Similarly under codecs the default decoders should be fine.
2.Now tick "Mixer"->then select your Output speaker configuration->Only tick on LFE"separate channel for your SUB".Rest should remain unchecked
3.Select Output->If u have pass-throught(external amplifiers,decoders such as Yamaha or Onkyo do as per your decoder configuration).If u don't have an external decoders leave it default.Under "Output format for uncompressed or decoded streams" check 16-bit and 24-bit. You can also select 32-bit if your going to play FLAC audio only,but while watching movies be sure to switch back to 24-bit and 16-bit.

Windows 7 settings:-
1.Start->Control Panel->Sounds->Speakers->Properties->Advanced->Exclusive Mode
Tick both.Default format anything 24-bit and frequency depending on your speaker configuration.

Your done and good to go.

*In MPC HC->Click View->Check "Statistics" if u want to.
*When watching movies u can press Ctrl+P to turn ON and OFF the shaders do so when watching dvd rips in case the video is too dark.
*You can remove Vsync if you want by View->Render settings->Vsync->Uncheck both
*Compare your any favorite player

You can only have a small snippet for your quote; don't plug the post full of EVERYTHING. There isn't even any of that on the download page. Also add a title tag.

Ive been using MPC HC with FFDshow for 5 years or so and never had any problems.
The details in the videos in MPC compared to VLC is visible for me. VLC tends to noise in the video compared to MPC.

Only thing I hate about FFDshow is that some video editor requires a stand alone codec to use.

The x64 version is still a bit wonky. The x86 version is most stable as all directshow filters are still in x86.

Unless there is full x64 directshow filter support, x64 MPC HC is pretty much pointless.
Shhhhh!

Gonna go ahead and correct the OP real quick.
Best quality is achieved in part by using MadVR, not Haali/EVR or any of the other MS renderers.

Use if you're not already.
