No, not need with MPC-HC as it supports everything natively.

CCCP is for people who don't know what codecs they need to download individually in one convenient non-fat package.

Best quality is achieved in part by using MadVR, not Haali/EVR or any of the other MS renderers.

Use if you're not already.

But MadVR is not available for 64-bit its only 32-bit as of now. Yep its better.

MadVR also cant playback DVD's which could be a issue for some. Personally OP I disable ffdshow when enabling DVXA.

Another thing; Options>Subtitles>Maximum texture resolution, change it to Desktop.

Not sure if its something I've set but MPC-HC defiantly doesn't like playing back video over a gigabit lan.

MadVR default settings aren't optimized either. But yes, MadVR + Reclock (you will NEVER get out of sync audio ever as it runs to your processor clock) > all.

The player doesn't really matter as much, it's the processing algorithm it uses. So KMPlayer or Zoom Player with MadVR + Reclock will be the same best possible quality.

ReClock doesn't work in x64, does it?

DXVA is an ancient codec as of now, people those days had no cpu power to run 1080 or higher hd videos and still DXVA has quality limitations even with fermi which has new decoder chip, but software codec is proper raw quality. DXVA also causes artifacts.

I don't know what FFDShow is or why it's always referred to for VLC and MPC-HC, but I just download the x64 bit version (have used MPC for a long time, also 32-bit) and it plays everything I need perfectly. confused.gif

I did have two things unchecked that I remember learning about way back. Anyways...

2 problems:

this doesnt seem to use the gpu as I m cpu usage is spiking up to 50%?

Also, on certain files, like mkv, the sound doesnt work and is quite painful sounding noise.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

In your MPC-HC options->Internal filters-> transform filters->tick all 3 (DXVA) codecs your good to go. Read the post fully i mentioned it. Painful noise? hmm in ffdshow audio decoder conifuration->output->uncheck 24-bit and in your windows sound panel select the frequency for your speakers.
