Overbearing DRM is only going to hurt paying customers.

It isnt a justification to steal, rather a justification for the people who actually buy this game. If for a second you think that the people who pirate these games even have to worry about drm you are wrong. They bypass them and the only ones effected by them are the people who pay for them.

So the argument goes: Piracy is free advertisement and it makes sales, yet if developers would make better, more valuable games more people would buy it and not pirate?

Then what difference is buying v. pirating?

If those who pirate had no interest in buying it, then it being a "more interesting game" or more a valuable game wouldn't make a lick of difference.

Piracy creates interest, which subsequently creates DRM. If no one showed any interest in the game(because it sucks) then what purpose does DRM serve.
