You should explain why it is dumb so the idiots who believe it will know why they are stupid.

DRM like this is not a function of law enforcement. It is a backwards attempt to prevent piracy, one that does not work and only serves to punish legitimate users, the people who have actually paid for the product. The pirates won't have to worry about being online.
Correct, a more accurate analogy would be a store trying to prevent shoplifting by making customer go through body scanners on the way in and out and frisking them. It inconveniences the hell out of the paying customers, meanwhile the thieves are taking the products off the truck before they even get into the store.

And despite my use of the language in my analogy above it needs to be made perfectly clear that piracy is NOT stealing, it is not theft, the original is left intact and in the possession of the property owner, piracy is copyright infringement, it is different and is prosecuted and punished differently by the law. Getting something without paying for it does not constitute theft or stealing either, it may be receiving stolen goods or any number of other charges, but in the case of digital copies of software it's copyright infringement due to making or distributing copies not authorized by the intellectual property owner.

Semantics doesn't change anything. You can call it something else but it amounts the same thing. Why are we having this discussion again?

Well, the law calls it Copyrighgt Infringement and distances itself from theft. So, it's not really a matter of semantics.

The game looks like ****. Also any DRM in general is retarded, why **** over your customers ? Thats like me going into a store and buying a candy bar but having to pay 20 cents more because some douchebag stole one before, so he gets one for free yet I, the person who has done nothing wrong must pay the price.

Arguing that piracy isn't theft is the definition of arguing semantics.

there are also pirate radio stations, usefull in times of oppression. It has to do more with who calls whom a pirate.

Eg westerners call the somali pirates while it was them who illegali exploited somali waters in the first place

I love a good debate as much as the next person and most great debates that happen on OCN straddle the TOS line and sometimes step over it. I'm just giving out a friendly reminder to check your emotions at the door so the thread doesn't get locked.

It's not semantics what so ever. Piracy is very much NOT theft. The most damaging aspect of theft is the taking part. When you hear about someone getting robbed your first thought isn't "wow that's horrible, some guy didn't pay for a bunch of stuff he now has". Everyone thinks "oh those poor people, they lost their stuff".

Similarly, piracy, ie copyright infringement, isn't actually taking anything. The victim of copyright infringement doesn't actually lose anything (and don't give me the "every infringement is a sale lost" line, current studies into piracy can't even decide if it hurts or helps games more, there are cases where piracy helps spread the word about a game and it then sells better).

The reason people get so worked up about "semantics" is that "theft" implies that the victim was hurt, that something was stolen form them. Conversely, "copyright infringement" doesn't imply that at all. Like I said, the latest research into piracy hasn't even found conclusive evidence that piracy is harmful.

Sigh..... if you steal a car, you are TAKING a car from someone else. The piracy equivalent of acquiring a car would be illegally printing one using a high tech 3D printer from Toyota schematics you found online.

See how that's different than breaking into a dealership and driving off with a car? Or robbing your neighbor of their minivan? Piracy =/= theft.
