I need something a laptop that has the following features: (don't mind too much if its 2nd hand/refurb as long as it works and is in good condition)

-Portable (smaller than 15-15.5")
-Battery life; at least 4-5hours without plugging it in
-Good performance in Solidworks; ie no stuttering
-Gaming performance: most modern games on medium to high is fine

Budget:
$900 USD

cheers

Just by looking at newegg, having a requirement for less than 14" screen really cuts down on a lot of options, the vast majority of laptops less than 14" and within your price have intel integrated graphics.

how much battery do you roughly get?

Edit: thing is, I'm not sure if that exact model is available locally
and I would rather not import as that CAN get pricey and the warranty would probably be void

with webbrowsing and wifi on i get roughtly 6 hours on the intel gma mode

on the same mode with ati gfx on 3 hours max.

if you want more hours you can always get the extended battery.

its the intel speed step that helps with the battery savings.
