AMD Build?

Thread Starter
This is all for a friend, he made a post in our gaming forum and I am copying/pasting what he put. Please feel free to input anywhere he might be able to get better parts at the same budget or maybe a little over if it warrants a better product.

---------------------

Current Build:

Intel c2d e6850 @3ghz
Mushkin 4GB DDR2-800
EVGA Nvidia 8800GTX
EVGA 680i SE Mobo
WD 640GB HD
Corsair 650w PSU
Vista Ultimate 64bit

Built this in 2007. Going to upgrade because I believe my current motherboard is going bad (sound card stops working here and there, fps drops, programs slow to load, etc. I replaced my vcard and ram and installed W7. No solution.)

I bought an ATI 5850 blackfriday for super cheap to see if that would fix my lag issues in games to no avail.

Would like to build a new computer for under 500. I'm going to keep my current case, gpu, and harddrive which will save me 500bux.

New Build:
Sapphire ATI 5850 Dual GPU
Corsair 650w PSU
WesternDigital 640GB HD
CPU: xxx
Mobo: xxx
RAM: xxx

This is what I have picked out thus far. If anyone could find a better combo for under 500 please post. If not leave me your feedback on what I am thinking of getting.

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103894
MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131668
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231314

Thanks

This is for me btw. Couldn't remember my password but figured it out. I mostly game on this pc. Do a little bit of rendering and coding as well. I plan on expanding the memory down the road. I'd like to get something a bit future proof (I know there is new chips coming out from both AMD and Intel but my current rig is starting to fail) game wise.

Pretty sure this will suit me just fine as the clock speed is all that really matters for games.

once a member always a member now where is he? lol

edit: ninja'ed

anyways I would really recommend a diferent memory kit, though higher quality kits will run about 50 bucks more , the G.Skill ram is good for its price but its still bottom of the barrel.

The Phenom 970 really isnt necessary, I would just go for the 955 and overclock it to match the frequency.

For that I would recommend the Asus pro usb3, I had a very good experience with it. Has all the next gen goodies so anything that may or may not peak your interest you can add in and use it to its potential

It's in the original post. I'd like to keep it under 500. Pretty sure the only way to keep it under 500 is to go AMD and keep the 8GB of ram.

Thinking of getting this ram instead of the original post.

I wouldnt go with any of that personally, older chipset, cl9 ram is frowned upon, and he already has a 5850

I already own an ATI Sapphire 5850 (bought it on Black Friday for 140$ shipped). I just need ram/mobo/cpu and I suppose an aftermarket cooler if the budget allows it.
