Why should they risk doing that?
I wondering Microsoft will use Window DRM eventually? They are tired of pirates.

Hey, MS, how about a feature to natively burn and mount disk images? It's been in other OS's for many years now. What gives?

Until then you can use this: http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm
If you only use the .iso extension this is a nice light/simple app to use

Yup, using that. I just think it's absolutely silly that OS X and Linux have had this for years, and it's a fairly common file out there (hell, even the MS Developer releases are out on ISO's and .IMG's) that their OS would natively support them. Gah!

Don't forget the millions of game studios that equate disc images with piracy, of course that's stupid, but just as torrents get a bad image, as to disc images.

Microsoft has to listen to those developers, Linux distros don't.

I assume it would have to be weakened, so they can fit the OS on a device that does not have a 100GB+ HDD and 4GB of memory. Windows does suffer from a lot of bloat. Linux or Android or whatever, is different because it can be compiled to fit in pretty much any footprint. This is something MS will really end up struggling with, because if they eject too much, they just end up with a Windows wannabe like CE, which really, no one stuck with.

It's still Win 7 just with a weaker look.
But if it has tiles - that's a deal breaker. It may not need to have full blown Aero, but no one these days wants the cheezy, cartoon look of Win95 - which even looked awful fifteen years ago, dancing paperclips and all.

Whatever they do, it has to look clean and professional, or it won't be accepted. And if they do manage to declutter their OS to the point that it will run on an ARM, maybe there will be a ripple of major benefits on the desktop, like an OS that is half the size because they finally eject the rest of the useless garbage codes and easter eggs and who knows what else.

I am excited about these features, though, and hope that the cloud nonsense is optional or crackable, because I have no intentions of handing all my personal data to MS and my net is unstable anyway. If it is mandatory I can't wait for MS to be flooded with compensation requests due to people losing connection while working on their documents and getting really angry.
But MS is only using Cloud for marketing - what they are really trying to get people to use is their Live stuff - which has always been a terrible ball of brain damage. MS should concentrate on their OS and getting that right, and leave Cloud computing to the professionals like Citrix that know how to do it.

MS has never had a good run of anything "network" oriented, from years ago when they couldn't figure out TCP/IP and insisted on garbage like NetBEUI, through the long suffering years of Exploder (which was web browsing done wrong in so many ways). Like, they coulnd't even get serial ports right - so I think their foray into the Cloud will be another BOB-like disaster.

Now, if they were serious about the Cloud, they would hire some programmers, put them inn off-campus building like the XBox people, and not let Ballmer and his goons anywhere within three miles of the place. Then they would have a chance - but if it is something that is on-campus, it will be misunderstood and made into a huge calamity filled with damage and bugs galore.

They don't have to, whether they do or don't the companies who equate it with piracy still have to release for Windows, it'd be suicide to release a Mac or Linux only product really, for a big company at least.

Two things... my two cents at least.

1. Can anyone explain to me what they mean by separate user interfaces?

2. If Windows is worried about people pirating their OS, they need to find a way to stop that. Their attempt to stop Windows 7 piracy was an update that was released, and stopping that from installing is as easy as disabling the installation of updates until you give permission. Also, I noticed when I reformatted earlier, you have the option to not install that update. Pretty silly if their goal is to stop piracy of their own OS.
