School Laptop

Thread Starter
Had a back operation, so the laptop should be VERY light! >1.4kg (>3.08lbs)

My criteria...
- Price less than AU$350
- Weight should be less than the amount stated above..
- Battery life at least 5 hours on light Word/Web browsing.

What do you guys think of these?:

HP Mini 102
EeePC R101-BLK020S
MSi Windbook U135DX - for AU$60 extra, you get DDR3 & 90GB extra over the above two. worth it?

Thanks!

why not a fusion based PC instead of an ATOM

atoms are incredibly slow, but fusion based netbook/ultra portables are def a lot snappier than an atom

are you buying online in Australia or in store?

I will be buying in-store, too much for postage.

Could you recommend some 'fusion-netbooks' for about the AU$300 price mark?
I don't mind an Atom CPU, as long as it can do browsing, word-processing, 1080p movies... I'm happy with it.

You won't be able to do 1080p movies with an Atom based netbook.

Ok. I had a look around at some fusion-netbooks and they don't suit my criteria, they don't seem to be light and they are pretty big... Couldn't find many models in Australia, they are relatively new, so maybe that's why...

Anyway, I was thinking of getting the MSi U135DX. It's got DDR3 RAM compared to the others and has a chiclet keyboard which supposedly makes the keyboard quiet... A 100% CPU torture-test on the netbook made it die in 2hrs on battery, acceptable because it comes with a 3-Cell. So it'd last at least 5 hours on normal usage..

I paid $350 for my Dell Inspiron 1546 notebook. It was a discontinued model and it was on sale at Best Buy. If you live nearby to a Best Buy they might have a model in stock or in the backroom.

MSI FTW

Also 1080p doesn't matter on a net book screen
