Q8200 - Cant go past 3.1GHz / 443FSb on x38 ??

Hi OCN, looks like I hit a wall, redface.gif I remember overclocking a Q8200 to 3.5GHz or more on a P45 mobo before, (I know p45 can hold a better oc.) But on the asus p5e3 d x38, it dropped 400 MHz, I cant seem to get it stable past 443FSB / 3.1GHz.

q8200 multiplier is 7. Adequate power and cooling has been taken care of. Any input and help to reach more would be greatly appreciated.smile.gif

Is 7 its highest multi? What your RAM:FSB strap? Voltages? Temperatures?

Yes, 7 is the highest for Q8200 that's the problem I am not already breaking 3.5Ghz tongue.gif

I have the g skill ripjaws 8gb sets, cl 9, ddr3, 1600mhz running at 1500mhz since mobo doesn't support over 1600mhz i reckon, voltages are about 1.375 I reckon, temps are usually under 50C in bios

I tried to strap the FSB to 400 in the bios but any strapping makes it somewhat unstable..

The ram speed is directly linked to the FSB.

bit confused, i was referring to the north bridge strap on fsb, (set at auto)

I set the DRAM frequency to 1477mhz if thats what you mean?

Lower the ram speed keep it as close to stock clocks as you can.

the stock speeds are actually higher @ 1600 Mhz default (?)

I manually decreased the speed to 1477Mhz since the next option is well over 1700Mhz.
