i just cant decide which laptop to get. lets say that they are both the same price. i'm in my second year of university studying computer engineering. The only game i play at the time is starcraft 2.

the factors i take into consideration:
weight: vaio z (3pounds) vs w510 (around 6?)
price: but same price
performance obviously: i dont think there will be too much of a difference for me. im using envy 15 with i7 right now and ram isnt the most expensive component in a laptop.
keyboard: vaio z (crappy bilingual canadian keyboard) vs w510 (us keyboard)

sony vaio z (VPC-z112): intel Core i5-520M 2.40GHz (Turbo Boost up to 2.93GHz) 4096MB RAM (8192MB max) 13.1†LED Backlight (1600x900) 128GB Solid State HDD DL DVD+R/W Drive Centrino Advanced-N WiFi (802.11a/b/g/n) Gigabit Ethernet A2DP Bluetooth Built-In Webcam & Microphone w/Face Tracking Biometric Fingerprint Sensor EPEAT Gold Energy Star 5.0 NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M (1024MB Dedicated) & Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD HDMI Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

im just assuming that they're the same price because futureshop as an open box for 1499 + tax and i have a gift card for the exact 1499+tax amount lol. im going to sell this gift card for a bit less if i get the w510. w510 with 35% coupon came out to be $1400.

---------------------------------------------
i forgot the mention size of the screen and resolution. since this is a desktop replacement, the bigger the better but as i said before, weight matters too. w510 would win in this department but only because it weighs so much more

If you plan to do any gaming on this laptop, you do not want to get the Quadro graphics. They are optimized for applications not games. Maybe that will help narrow it down!

only a bit of gaming. i have a i7 right now and i cant say if it's better or worse than i5 but it doesnt make a difference for me.

also i even though about buying the vaio z and replacing the keyboard but i couldnt find it anywhere. and JUST MAYBE i can get used to the bilingual keyboard. i still HATE it at the moment though.

I need more information. What are you going to use the laptop for? Are you looking to replace your current laptop, or purchase a 2nd laptop? What are your wants/needs in the laptop?

Between the two you listed, and the one you currently have, all three are night and day different between each other in every way.

i'm going to use the laptop for school and a BIT of gaming (they both have good enough graphics card for me). some programing, gonna start learning web design. i dont do video editing or anything like that but we all like fast computers lol. i carry my laptop around every single day so it would be better if it was lighter but i can handle my envy 15 (5.5pounds?). a lighter laptop would be a present for my back and shoulder though. and yes i am replacing my current laptop.

-------------------------
battery life is a bonus too

The vaio looks better to me, more RAM, SSD, better gaming GPU, lighter weight. The only reason to go with the w510 would be for 1080p (no blue ray player anyway), larger screen and the i7.

bilinugal keyboards are horrible for english native speakers simply because the lay out is so counter intuitive

you can always go on ebay and buy a normal keyboard for your laptop though
