CPU fan error, no RPM value, cannot OC with software

Thread Starter
I've daisy chained 3 120mm fans to each other with their molex plugs and hooked up the last one in sequence with its 3pin plug to the mobo.

I did that so they all get power and hoped they would return an RPM value for me to monitor/tweak with software.

These are rad fans cooling the cpu and as such I've connected them to the "CPU fan" pins on the mobo.

Upon boot, I get a "CPU fan error". The PC posts and loads into os. I however, do not get an RPM value, that and because of the error the overclock functions have been capped at factory settings.

Meaning, AMD OverDrive won't let me OC.

Whats going on?

First, you can't get accurate fan speed info if you tie multiple fans together. You could get around this by disconnecting the yellow wire on all but 1 fan. You should also research your mobo to make sure it is capable of putting out enough power through the header to power multiple fans. Check the maximum output, add up the total amperage requirement on the fans, and compare.

Second, don't use software to OC. It isn't as stable or effective as doing it in BIOS.
