StealthTyphoon's

Thread Starter
Well, I received all of my GentleTyphoon's a few days ago and thanks to Nordar (all credit here should go to him, as my idea and progress is all due to his build log) I decided to do my own little project.

It's a ways in the working since I've never really done this before.

First, I attempted to paint a fan white. It came out bad and I tried to remove the paint. End result:

I took from my mistakes what I learned, as should anyone who chooses to do such a project.

Gutsy as I am, I took ALL other 13 fans apart and proceeded to paint the casings. I don't have step by step pictures but they came out great in black. Black on black must have helped that, though.

Then I took all 13 fans and did a somewhat light coat my first time around, just to get the paint to stick so it wouldn't glop up like the first fan did. Did a second light coat, and then a regular coat. Fourth coat was mostly just to cover up all of the gray areas originally painted on the fan.

I essentially followed all of the steps Nordar did in order to get my fans looking nice. The end result is great. A satin black finish that isn't too shiny but isn't too boring. What do you think?

On my new mousepad:

Solo on my desk:

A bit dirty but it has been laying on my floor:

Backside. I do NOT like the look of the stickers. Sorry for those who do :

On desk again:

Trying to compare color to the Fender gloss black. Didn't really work out well due to depth of field:

Birds eye of the AP-15. As you can see, one of the casings is missing a fan. The poor white one is reordered and on the way!:

Satellite view of AP-15:

Birds eye of the AP-14:

Satellite view of AP-14:

Side view of AP-14:

Side view of all the fans. I apologize for the red tinting as there is a red sleeping bag on my futon and I really have no where else to snap some pictures. I suppose it does give you an idea of how reflective they are:

Sleeving and heatshrinks were supposed to be delivered today. No thermal. Though I realized that the sleeving I ordered was wrong so it won't be here for at least another week or so.

I'll update once it arrives but thanks to Nordar for the inspiration and all the help. Let me know how you all feel!

Btw, I nicknamed them StealthTyphoon

Looking good! I, for one, have never liked their color scheme (what's up with the grey blades and black housing? lol). I like the performance just not the look.

Paint it all black looks really good.. I just wish Scythe or Nidec had thought of this since the beginning.

Thanks guys . Like I said, Nordar inspired me.

Reaper, I agree with your comments. Their color scheme is awkward, haha.

Monday when my radiators arrive I will be attaching the 1850's and posting more pics of the end result.

Btw, I love your Black Water build. How much sleeving did you need?

Nice work!, have you thought of cutting some electrical tape to cover the hub?

Masterful work!

Once you get it all setup and running could you tell us if it's affected the noise at all? Thanks!

That's the plan for tonight

I hope I have some laying around that will fit the build. Like many others around here I'm quite the perfectionist, although I know my boundaries and can't be quite as precise as others.

Stay tuned for more pics later!

Absolutely will. I may record a video of them all running on max RPM. Won't happen for a week or two though.

This might look weird because I wanted to cover the fan chip.

Not quite sure if I did the rest right but:

I mean all in all it came out okay, right? Not like it's really noticeable as long as it hides the bright wires. With my tinted glass window, I'm sure nobody will notice

Love it! Great job.

I've been thinking of painting some of mine for some time now but I can't decide about the color..
