Sandy bridge, (save cash) phII x4 955 or wait for DB

So, ok.
I will be getting a new comp in about a moth and this question is bothering me a lot:

which cpu should i get, or should I wait for BD???

my very top limit is about £170(~the price of a 2500k), not sure what that is in $

....
I will mostly be gaming but I would also want my machine to be 'future-proof', or atleast so I won't have to upgrade each month.

If i went with an 955 build, i could get 8gb ram(xms3 biggrin.gif, before you say, i have 3gb in my sig rig and always run low, but on games....some specific), i could also get a IV ch formula.....
for the same price of an 2500k with 4gb and decent mobo , msi GD65(i won't get, only wanted sli but I think amd's/ati's are better(power usage/perf ratio)).

please advise me what to get,
Like i said i wanted it to be future proof soo yeah,
if it helps i'll be getting a 6870 probably.

I wouldn't even think about it now, come buying time there might be more news on dozer, the intel fubar will be old news, etc etc etc etc etc etc. Hard telling the future, thats why no one does it.

*edit* Strange though(might not be dont know prices over there), that you are considering top new intel chips, but not amd 6 cores, specially when considering "future proofing"

well yes i know, but i wanted to save some money, and get a good mobo and the extra ram....but yes if you want... then the amd 1090t is ~£10 than a 2500k(for overclocking, otherwise i'd get a 2300 or a 1055t)

and propably i will stick to your thought, I don't need it right now,
I just hope than in a month or so there will be some BD stuff going on(news etc etc etc)

well You dont really need a 955x2 cpu when u have a 425 that unlocks ez to x4, 2nd I dont understand why you are using ddr2 on a am3 soket cpu.

for me your best bet is to buy a descent mobo get a good video card and buy a better psu
with some ddr3 ram 2x2gb.
Now you can put your money away and save to upgrade in a few months, with the possibility of still using your vcard psu and ram

Wait for bulldozer, you can compare the performance between sandy bridge and bulldozer then.

you can keep the cpu and put it on a new mobo than you will be able to oc...

I recommend waiting for Bulldozer, and making your choice once it's clear whether or not Bulldozer is the revolutionary Intel killer that it's being made out to be.
If not, go with Sandy when she comes back.
For a graphics card, you'll get much better price : performance from an ATI build. Don't go 6870 though, the 1GB versions of the 6950 are a better buy. Truly, though, if you're a gamer, you should be spending most of your money graphics cards. You don't need to go crazy CPU-wise right now to make a good gaming rig.

DDR2 is just fine for AM3 setups. Look at some benchmarks of DDR2 vs DDR3 - the difference is marginal.
