BIOS settings, and what they should be at?

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I can grasp overclocking fairly well (although I wasn't aware you had to change the NB Frequency until a few days ago - inb4noob), but I just hate leaving things on auto in the BIOS.

I'd much rather have complete control over whats going on - voltages, frequencies, the lot.

What should I have everything set to, before I start overclocking? I'm not just referring to the chipset - PCI lanes, HDD settings, everything.

Thanks guys

Please let me know if it should be kept on Auto regardless.

What speed are you trying to hit? That will greatly affect what all of your settings should be. I used to have a 955, so I could let you know approx what everything should be set to, to achieve your desired OC.

ok so the NB on an amd system works best at around 2200mhz to 2300mhz, and the voltages can vary widely between chipsets, around 2.5v will be the right cucumber, as for the bus speeds ect thats really up to you. lol

I hope that's a typo, because 2.5v will kill it immediately.

With the 955be, the NB's "sweet spot" for a 4.0ghz OC is around 2600mhz-2800mhz and 1.3v-1.35v. You should leave the HT link at the stock 2000mhz (or as close to stock as possible) because it starts to become unstable below 1900mhz and above 2100mhz.

You don't need to mess with PCI lanes, I would just leave them alone.

Ok I'm talking purely stock here, before I do anything I want it off Auto.

It's too hot to OC at the moment anyway I'm getting load temps of 60C, even after a reseat.

With the PCI lanes, I'm not saying overclock, I just want to set them to the correct number and leave it, it makes me feel better, especially since I have a decent mobo now.

Wow, 60C is hot, but I guess you are in Australia so it's summer there.

I can honestly say I've never touched the PCI lanes on an amd mobo, so I can't really help you there, sorry. I've always just left mine on auto.

The HT link and the NB should both be at 2000mhz at stock, but your mobo should have them set that way automatically, and your CPU-NB volts should probably be between 1.2-1.25v, but again your mobo should have it set right around there anyways.

Do you want all the power saving features on or off?

Power saving is already off.

Yes, I'd imagine most of it is set correctly already, but as I said it's for my own peace of mind that the mobo isn't changing things on me once I start overclocking

I know what you mean, I usually like to set everything myself too. I would check what my pci lanes are set to for you, but my AM3 build is in pieces at the moment.

Yeah , all of them are set correctly, but CPU Volt is set a little bit higher than needed.
If you OC (both CPU and CPU/NB)and keep volts AUTO, your mobo might bump your CPU volt and CPU/NB volt. ASUS boards do that, but sets those voltages higher than needed

Yes I know that...

I think Hobie is the only one who fully understands what I am asking here.

Get your minds off OCing - it's too hot here for that (we've been hitting 35C+ in the middle of the day - hell it's 9AM here and our outside thermometer is reading 30C).

I just want to know what everything should be at stock, because I don't like leaving anything at all on Auto.
