Which GTX 570 or HD 6950 should I get? - Page 2

If you're sticking with only two monitor then get the 570. If you're planning to add a third monitor then buy the 6950.

I was going to buy an EVGA GTX 570 SC, but newegg sold out before I could place my order. I instead went with the Gigabyte with the Windforce cooler because I've heard it cools better and runs quieter than the reference coolers, plus I've always had good luck with Gigabyte products. I haven't seen too much in the way of non-reference 570's (EVGA has the only one that I know of...the 570 HD), so they all should be very similar other than coolers, clock speed, and warranty.
I think you have that mixed up. The card that you bought is a "non-reference" model as they do not use the Nvidia reference design for the cooler shroud.

The new eVGA 570 HD is a reference design as it's based off the shroud cooler of the GTX 560.

Your windforce cooler is a non reference because they not only use their own cooler design but sometimes their own proprietary PCB as well with better components and sometimes more power phases.

I actually wasn't asking whether I should get the 570 or 6950. I was just asking, if I were to get each one, which model/brand would I choose?

I've tried both Asus GTX570 and Asus HD6950. I feel the 6950 is built more sturdy. It comes with a nice backplate and also an aluminum shroud as opposed to a plastic one on the GTX570. When I ran my tests they were pretty much the same (6950 with shaders unlocked) performance wise. I will have to say that the fan @ 50% on the 570 is more quiet than the 6950. Either way both would be a good investment.

If 570, get an EVGA.
If AMD, Gigabyte or ASUS.

If your mobo can support CrossfireX, another 5850 isn't a bad option either.
Also gives you ability for even more monitors.
