To Lap or not

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

Just picked up a 1090t with crosshair IV formula board, I've also got a never used H70 cooler. I'm wanting to get 4.2 - 4.4 ghz out of this setup, is it possible or should I lap the cpu?

This will be a Games machine, thats also used to surf the net. I have a pair of 6950's unlocked + oc'd waiting to go into this system. SO with the oc on the cpu I'm hoping to get some decent fps.

Thanks

Anthony

If you're gonna lap, do both the CPU and the cooler. Not just one or the other. Do it on a piece of glass. There are tons of tutorials on the web for doing so.

However, I would try and see how it runs without lapping. It's been shown that lapping will only give you a 1-3C benefit... if you're lucky and do it right. If those few degrees are holding you back, then go for it... otherwise I'd just run it as is. The H70 should do fine out of the box.
