New Super low Budget Build

Thread Starter
This is a computer that will be for a 7 year old. Ill probably throw my 160GB HDD in it unless a similar small HDD is real cheap/free with combo or something.

Im thinking budget ram (2gbs is enough) a sempron and the chance to unlock a 2nd core, or possibly a cheapo intel build.

This will be used to surf the web and play flash games, and some low def video and audio streaming. A small form factor would be cool.

On board gfx is expected, a decent, solid psu, (something like Antec Earthwatt 380D). Quiet would be good so 120mm fans preferred, but it doesnt need to be silent. Ill need to pick up a small monitor, and peripherals also.

Looking for suggestions thanks in advance for your time guys.

Im thinking something like:
Elite 330 Black Mid Tower, W/O window, W/O PSU - Refurbished $21
for a case.

I like how your thinking with the PSU though. Thats kinda cool. but id like a little more processor.

Yeah sure it's around $20 cheaper than the case I listed so go for it. Also, the HDD you have is SATA and not IDE right?

You can get 2x2GB of DDR3-1600 for just $4 more.
OCZ Special Ops 1600 CL8 - $30 AR

I highly recommend this modification of a build by badwrench:
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103903 $61 shipped
Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138283 $65 shipped
Case/psu: http://cmstore.coolermaster-usa.com/...products_id=90 $21 + $10 s&h
Ram: OCZ Special Ops 1600 CL8 - $40, $30 AR
HDD: Samsung F1 500GB - $40, $35 if Mwave member + $2 s&h
Optical drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106289 $16 shipped w/ promo code: EMCKHKJ22, ends 2/7
Total = $255, $235 AR + tax shipped.

Also, do you have a Microcenter near you? You can save big there for CPU/motherboard. I know there are two in California - in fact I've been to one in Santa Clara. For a lower price than the x2 250 + A880G+, you can get the Athlon II x4 + Biostar 760G or ASUS nForce board for $100. In fact I'm pretty sure there are even cheaper combos you can choose.

Looking at this Linkworld Electronic 727 Micro-ATX Case as a potential case. Cheap build quality isnt a problem for me since this is a comp for a 6 year old. Any reason i shouldnt get this other then top mount PSU and max 90mm fan size? (ive got several 80mm fans laying around so whatever, and the proc in this comp will be undervolted most likely)

It isnt ugly on the outside and the form factor is nice.
