System crash, bios crash

Thread Starter
Today I put a disc in to my dvd drive and pressed auto start. Then my computer crashed. I restarted the computer and it locked up again then I tried for the third time and the same thing. Then I decied to take the sata plugs out of the dvd drives. This then made it crash in the bios which I tried to restart again but it crashed again. After thinking my motherboard had died I plugged the drives back in and it then booted to windows. It was firstly not very responsive but then turned fast like usual .

I was just wondering what the hell happened here and how I could check my motherboards stability just incase. In device manager it says all my hardware is fine.

My motherboard is a MSI CD-53 P55 chipset.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

My first guess is, that disc contained secret data meant for someone else's eyes only
Second guess, could be due to a virus attack. I have seen similar thing to happen when someone tried to run an infected autorun file. Do a complete scan with a good antivirus and root-kit scanner.
Sometimes a system may crash when asked to run a corrupt (poorly compiled) exe file.
As for system stability, run Prime95 in blend mode for a minimum period of 8 hours and keep coretemp open to log the temp values. If your system passes the test for that long, everything is fine.

Yeah I see what you mean but the dvd I put in was Assassins creed two lool, I recieved it free with my graphics card. But I do a prime test on it too.

I found when I did get my computer running however my anti virus (Avast) stopped working properly so i installed AVG. Could this mayby be a cause for the crash ?

When a major service like an antivirus service gets corrupt, windows becomes highly unstable, can even lead to crash. but that wont cause post failure.
if it were just the windows freeze ups troubling you, then do a complete uninstall of avast and install avg ( i know you have done it already)...... then defrag the system drive (must remember to back up system files with windows 'backup and restore' feature before doing so).

I think the post failure could be my own fault as I pulled the power out of one my DVD drives but left the sata cable still connected. Could this be why??

Thanks for your help btw

lol.... technically, no. But it really depends upon the motherboard design. Usually it shouldnt happen for the reason you mentioned.
Have you tried to run that dvd in some other pc yet? if not, try that out, just to see what happens.

I still need to try the disc on another computer but I ran prime 95 for about an hour and 34 minutes and there was no issues. Ill try 8 hours when I find the time but i think my pc is healthy now anyway.

I was also wondering that if I was to download the game and enter the keycode that came with my disc would it be legal? I don't ever get games illegally but this seems unfair towards me if this disc did mess my pc up.
